It was the worst defeat, in history, for Bayern in German Cup! If Bayern is unhappy with this, Union is unhappier because now they have to face a Bayern that will be looking to make a statement.
While Union Berlin may not be a household name if we look at their record at the Stadion An der Alten Foersterei it’s absolutely impressive: they haven’t lost at home in the last 13 months when they did to Augsburg! It is definitely the toughest ground to perform in the Bundesliga and maybe Bayern needed a special boast to go there and wipe Union away. So far, Bayern has three wins and a draw in their away games so far this season.
Either way, the task won’t be easy as Union at home is intense and efficient, supported by a fantastic crowd that creates a special connection with the home team.
Then again, the 0-5 needs an immediate reaction, so it’s possible that Bayern will try to impress from the start. Winning alone won’t be enough to turn the page and, who knows, maybe the rumour about Lewandowski winning the Ballon d’Or could provide extra motivation.

Bayer Leverkusen vs. VfL Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg’s downfall has no end in sight. Last week I predicted they would not win in spite of hosting Freiburg: the double chance pick paid off as Freiburg won. At this point, it seems there is no way for Wolfsburg to get back on track. I also predicted Leverkusen to draw, on the road, against a feisty Koln side and that’s exactly what happened. Bottom line, both Leverkusen and Wolfsburg have their issues.
In fact, Leverkusen was also just eliminated in German Cup by Karlsruhe, while Wolfsburg was already eliminated by a third-division team in the previous round. They both will play quite desperately, but having a chance to rest and to focus on the preparation for this game could be more helpful for Wolfsburg as they look to put an end to their winless streak: four defeats in a row and eight winless games.
The last time they managed to snatch all three points was on September 11th. This is their worst streak in the past three seasons! They will do anything to avoid losing.

Both teams come into this game having won their German Cup round with identical scores (2-0), although Koln’s fixture was much more stressful despite playing at home.
