Bruins vs. Rangers NHL Odds, Preview and Prediction

Table of Contents

Boston head into New York tonight to face a Rangers team who have had two weeks without an NHL game, in the same period the Bruins have only played four games themselves.

Will the Bruins be able to cash as underdogs against a possible rusty Rangers team?

Boston Bruins vs. New York Rangers

Tuesday, February 15, 2022 – 07:00 PM EST at Madison Square Garden

Boston Lacking Offense

Well is it any surprise the Bruins are struggling in front of goal now that their top points scorer Brad Marchand is suspended, ironically the first game without Marchand the Bruins lost 6-0 and were shut out. Last time out they won 2-0 on home ice, not exactly enthralling stuff against a weak team such as Ottawa, and it also took their goaltender Jeremy Swayman to put up a 30 save shut out, but a win, nonetheless.

Having just scored an average of  1.97 goals per game across their previous 10 NHL outings and the absence of Brad Marchand and also Patrice Bergeron should be cause for concern heading into tonight’s road game against a fresh Rangers team who have one of the best goaltenders in the league right now.

Boston are currently sitting in 8th in the Eastern Conference and 4th in the Atlantic division.

Rusty New York Rangers?

The big question when any team has that number of days off compared to their competitors or opponents is, will they be rusty? According to their coach, they have had a good rest and four hard days of practice in preparation for this game. We think the Rusty factor is still important but not as much as it used to be back in the day when players were not eating as healthy or working out as much as they do today.

Before their 14 day layoff, the Rangers just about beat the Seattle Kraken 3-2 with the winning goal scored by Defenseman K’Andre Miller with just 34 seconds remaining on the clock in the 3rd period.

New York are currently sitting in 6th overall in the Eastern Conference and 3rd in the Metropolitan division.

*Trends should never be your main source of information when it comes to making your betting picks, they are merely guidelines and mostly irrelevant information but nonetheless can be interesting to read.

What Are The Betting Odds and Current Lines?

Moneyline: The traveling team, Boston are +115 to win on the moneyline, when underdogs they have a 4-8-2 record. The Rangers on home ice are currently sitting at -150 on the ML.

Total: Tonight’s total has been set at 5.5 with the overpriced up at -110 and the under coming in at +100.

Puck Line: The home team to cover the -1.5 PK line is currently coming in at +160, whilst the Boston Bruins to cover the underdogs PK line at +1.5 is priced up at NHL odds of -190.

Betting Predictions

The Bruins come into this game knowing that they are highly lacking on offense, they will not be looking to get into a shootout with the Rangers on home ice and should look for a defensive performance and hope to come away with the win in a low scoring affair.

On the back of that, we have a Rangers team who have the 4th best goals-against record with an average of 2.57, and Boston aren’t too far behind them with an average of 2.8, the 14th best in the league.

For us the play here in the under 5.5 at +100, a team looking to favor defense versus a team who are defensively sound, and don’t score a ton of goals compared to the rest of the league with 3.2 goals per game, which is middle of the pack.

With Swayman set to start for the Bruins and Igor Shesterkin for the Rangers, we have two strong goaltenders in the crease for both teams.

It’s hard to find any value on the moneyline or PK line in this game, we don’t know what Rangers team will turn up tonight and the Bruins were already in a bad slump now they're without two of their best players. Let’s ride with some strong goaltenders and defense for tonight’s NHL pick.
