After a week traveling back from Japan, the PGA Tour resumes at the Utah Championship, now in its second year. While this event marks the first time the PGA Tour has taken players to Utah, professional golf is not new to the state, which previously hosted a yearly Korn Ferry Tour tournament.

Let’s take a look at this week’s odds as golf expert Craig Edwards (@EdwardsTips_) brings his best bets for the 2025 Bank of Utah Championship, highlighting players to watch and betting opportunities for this PGA Tour fall series event.

Black Desert Golf Course: Course Notes

  • Location: Ivins, Utah
  • Par/Yards: Par 71, 7,421 yards
  • Designers: Phil Smith & Tom Weiskopf
  • Course Features: Carved through lava rock fields, flat terrain, high altitude

Set at altitude, the course played very easily last year, and the same is expected in the coming days with perfect conditions of no wind and pleasant temperatures in the low 20s.

Expect a low-scoring week on the slick Bentgrass greens.

Back Matt for A Repeat Win in The Desert!

On occasion, the obvious bet can be the best!  Many punters will be put off backing Matt McCarty to defend his first PGA title in the Utah Desert because conventional wisdom believes that never happens.

Well, it happens more than bettors think, indeed, returning to the place where you have great memories will always give those endorphins a kick.  Kyoung Hoon Lee at the Byron Nelson in 2021 and 2022 is a recent example, and this column followed on both occasions.

If that trend is too flimsy, factor in that the twenty-seven-year-old from Arizona is obviously an expert in desert golf, growing up in the desert, and he arrives here on the back of an impressive 14th at the Baycurrent Classic in Japan.

With a world ranking of #58, one superior performance would lock up McCarty’s spot in all next year’s major events and a top 50 ranking.

Birdie fests on easy driving courses look like the perfect fit for Matt McCarty, so let us take him to defend his Bank of Utah Championship this week.

Hoey’s Putting Advantage

A year on from an inaugural Utah Championship debut, Rick Hoey looks ready and primed for his maiden PGA Tour title.

Last year, Hoey was a solid 21st with his well-documented putting problems undermining his elite ball striking tee-to-green. In recent months, Hoey has ranked just behind Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa in tee-to-green stats but dead last in strokes gained on the greens.

That has changed recently with a move to the longer flatstick a couple of starts ago, which already seems to make a dramatic difference to the thirty-year-old Filipino who, on his previous start in Japan, was 4th.

Rick Hoey looks assured of a big week in Utah, so we suggest betting him to win and for a top 10 finish.

Why Greyson Sigg is a Props Bet

A top sportsbook like BetOnline has an extensive range of props markets, and their place ones are good for golfers who do not win tournaments very often.

Those sentiments suit Greyson Sigg for this week’s event, because being ranked 146th in the FedEx Fall series, he needs a couple more good finishes to lock up next year’s playing privileges, something he did well last year.

This campaign looks like a carbon copy for the thirty-year-old from Augusta in Georgia, after two top 25s in his last two events.  Those were his best finishes since February in what has been a dreadful six or seven months of mainly missed cuts.

Undoubtedly, Greyson Sigg is trending into form perfectly for a tournament that he played solidly in last year, when finishing 11th.

Do not expect to see Greyson Sigg in the higher echelons this week, but picking up a top 20 finish at BetOnline for his ranking is well within his wheelhouse.
