While the women’s side is wide open, the men’s side is essentially a two-man race. Tennis fans and bettors alike can make flowery, effusive arguments for some of the long shots, but the reality is that the winner of this tournament will be either Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner. These two men just faced off in the Italian Open Final with Carlos Alcaraz prevailing 7-6. 6-1.
When Alcaraz hit the scene, he was considered the heir apparent to Rafael Nadal, almost a shoo in to win the French Open year after year. Therefore, it is a credit to the growth of the game of Jannik Sinner that he is even considered so close in odds compared to Carlos Alcaraz.
However, Sinner has consistently shown an ability to get things done on all surfaces, including clay. Alcaraz is the superior mover. Yet Sinner also has excellent court movement and his ability to generate topspin allows him to dominate in court position. When these two players face off, it is a tactical battle that displays the best that tennis currently has to offer.
Carlos Alcaraz will win the French Open. His win over Jannik Sinner in Rome displays when both are at their best, Alcaraz’s level of play is better on clay. Sinner will get his chance for revenge at the US Open, but on the slow courts of Paris, Alcaraz is still the top player in the world. Take Carlos Alcaraz to win the French Open.

Women’s Side: Who Can Take Down Iga?
The women have much more variety when it comes to selection of who to win the tournament. Iga Swiatek is the favorite at +175. However she has had one of her worst seasons in recent memory, and has not been playing well on clay. In fact, rather than using the clay swing to bolster her ranking, she came in struggling and is currently the fifth seed in the French Open. Her clay court dominance has been well documented, however, her spate of recent struggles makes her a tough click here at this price.
Aryna Sabalenka is currently number two in the tennis odds at +225, and in my mind she should be the rightful favorite. Although Sabalenka has struggled at certain tournaments, she is still the most consistent performer on tour right now. One of the biggest concerns for Sabalenka is how her hard-hitting, powerful style translates to the slow clay of Roland Garros.
Sabalenka will have to be more consistent as shots that would be winners on any other court will be returned here at the French Open. Sabalenka will need to display an increased level of consistency and might need to draw back the aggression just a little bit in order to compete.
Elite Athlete, Elite Backhand
Coco Gauff is a former Grand Slam winner that is also struggling this season. Gauff is one of the top athletes on tour, and her court movement is excellent, making her an excellent defensive player. Coco’s backhand is arguably the best on tour, and it is not a weakness that an opponent should attack. However, Coco is currently struggling with their serve and her forehand.
While Coco’s forehand has always been a bit iffy, it has definitely rounded into form when she needed it, and she’s been able to count on it in big matches. I will not be surprised to see her find some more success from her forehand this tournament. However, the serving problems are an issue, especially on her second serve.
The second serve is not strong to begin with, and she has a low second serve make percentage. This could be the difference in a tight match. Of all the Grand Slam tournaments, breaks are most common at the French, and Coco needs to be able to protect her serve if she’s going to be able to make a run this fortnight.
Brash, Bold, and Betting-Worthy
Mirra Andreeva is a young up and coming teenager who does not know that she should not be the winner of this tournament. Andreeva is young and brash, and that shows in her fearless play on the court. Andreeva could definitely get hot to make a run and win this tournament. However, at the current price they have accurately captured her odds of winning the tournament. A lay on Andreeva is fun, but there’s not the huge value that I was hoping to get for her in this tournament.
Qinwen Zheng is the defending champion, and you are getting +1100 on her. I think this is a better bet than Andreeva, although Andreeva comes in with much better form. However, it is not unlikely that Zheng could come into this tournament and recapture the form that she found last year to become the upset winner. Zheng provides good value at +1100.
The Italian Open has always been a good precursor to see who will find success at Roland Garros due to the similar slow style of play on the courts. This bodes well for Italian Open winner Jasmine Paolini who comes in at +1800. Paolini is playing excellently and is coming off a title win. This is the best form we’ve ever seen in her whole career. Paolini also provides another excellent longshot price because at +1800, if she even makes the semifinals you can hedge and make a profit.
The Picks
My two favorite bets on the price here are Qinwen Zheng and Jasmine Paolini. I’m getting better than 10 to 1 on both, and both have an excellent chance to raise the trophy. While the men’s side will be chalky, take advantage of longshot prices here in the world of women’s tennis.
