Circa Sports Bettor Stands to Make Millions on Seahawks Future Bet
Super Bowl LX is nearly here, and Circa Sports reported that it had received a $1 million Patriots moneyline wager from a bettor who has a Seahawks preseason future ticket worth more than three times as much if Seattle hoists the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday night.
Bettor Soars With Seahawks
A first-time customer made his way to the Circa Sports betting windows shortly before the NFL regular season began and calmly placed four future wagers on the Seattle Seahawks, three of which have already cashed.
The unknown gambler bet on the Seahawks to “make the playoffs” at odds of +180 and win the NFC West at +600. He also locked Seattle in at odds of +3,700 to win the NFC Championship.
“This gentleman came in in August—at least here and at the MGM that we know of—and bet futures on the Seahawks for I don’t know how much at the MGM or what their prices were. Here, they were all for $50,000,” Palm said. “He bet them to make the playoffs, to win the West, to win the NFC, and to win the Super Bowl. So, he’s cashed the first three.”
Therefore, the $150,000 the gentleman wagered has already returned to him more than $2.2 million, and he also has a Super Bowl future on the Seahawks at odds of +7500, which will pay him $3.75 million should the Seahawks emerge victorious. Of course, these are the tickets at Circa Sports alone, as he is also reported to have more Seattle futures at the MGM for unspecified amounts.
Celebrity Super Bowl Bets
Some notable names have also made substantial wagers on the big game, with NBA star Devin Booker betting $1 million on the Seahawks, while Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy placed a $50,000 bet midway through the season on the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl when their odds at the time were +3,500.
Hedge Clipping
A man in the bettor’s enviable position did precisely what he should have done when he hedged his Seattle future with a $1.1 million wager on the Patriots moneyline at +188. Because of that, he has guaranteed himself a handsome payday either way.
Of course, he could have tried to middle the game and win both wagers had he bet on the Patriots +4.5. If Seattle wins and the Patriots cover the spread, he would earn $3.75 million from the Seahawks’ future bet and approximately $1 million from the Patriots’ point spread.
“He could’ve taken the points, waited, taken 4.5 or 5, and tried to middle it, but he took the moneyline,” Palm said. “So one ticket is gonna win, and one ticket is gonna lose. He’s gonna make a million dollars off of it at least.”
Circa Sports Super Bowl Liability
Circa Sports reported that its biggest Super Bowl liability was on the Seahawks and the Texans. Houston got ousted by the Patriots in the playoffs, while the Seahawks won and narrowly covered when they notched a 31-27 decision over the LA Rams in the NFC Championship game.
“Those were really the only two teams we had any liability to,” Palm said. “We had our shot with the Rams to knock out the Seahawks, but it didn’t happen.”
