Anyone else ever heard of doing this or a variation of this?
It's basically planning to play the cash-out option in advance.

I've not tried it but it sounds interesting.
  1. After the regular season ends, you pick 3-4 teams to win the National Title. But, you split each bet into 4 pieces on each team. For example, if I am going to pick Ariz, UConn, Duke, Mich to win the title at $100 each, I split it into 4 seperate $25 bets on each team to win it. Total 16 bets at $25 each.

  2. As a team wins in round 1 and round 2 (likely if you're picking decent teams and teams you see some value on), the cash-out option offered by the book will jump. So after round 1 or 2, you cash out one or two of your 4 tickets for a given team.

  3. If they win in Sweet 16, the cash-out will jump again and you cash out another one of the remaining tickets. If they win in Elite 8 repeat the cash-out.

  4. At any point you can hold onto the ticket(s) if you think they will win it all.

Anyone plan something like this in advance and how did it work out for you?

I can't say if it would be +money or not.

That cash out option can be expensive. I don't think I've ever used the cash out option at a sportsbook. It's just not hte way I want to sell back EV.

Getting a good future on a favorite team can build equity after winning a round or two as you can peel some off as you bet their underdog opponent.

But when it comes to March Madness, I take the rotation as it comes. One game, day, round at a time. It can be very hard to look ahead, and hard to predict.

One of these years I'll pick Illinois to win it all, I think, if they can keep the team together in this day and age, that they will be champs one day soon. @flyingillini might agree with this.
