Former WBC/WBA/WBO lightweight Vasiliy Lomachenko (15-2, 11 KO) returns to the ring Saturday night, December 11, at Madison Square Garden looking to get back into lightweight championship contention by taking on a stiff challenge from former IBF lightweight champion, Richard Commey (30-3, 27 KO).

The 33-year-olf Ukrainian southpaw Lomachenko will be facing his second opponent since losing to Teofimo Lopez in October 2020. Commey, the 34-year-old orthodox fighter from Ghana, has history with Lopez as well, with his only loss in the last five years being to the now former champ. The winner of this clash will look to secure the fight shot at new unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr.

If Lomachenko can get the job done and impressive fashion, I believe that will land him right back in title contention.



Look for Lomanchenko to start off a little conservative in the first few rounds as he will take his time trying to figure out the 5.5 inch reach advantage of Commey. Once he does it, and he will, look for Lomachenko to tap into the matrix and confuse Commey with his angles and unpredictable striking.

When Lomachenko gets into his rhythm it will just be a matter of time before he puts Commey to sleep.
