First we have the one & done in college basketball which sucks, now we have this for the future of college football

What all schools/colleges need to start doing for the sake of each other, is start really drilling these players and asking them "If we take you in, how do we know you won't leave us too?!?"
This sucks a whole lot worse than the one and done in basketball imo. Kids today no longer stick it out with their teams and only 2 out of the 43 bowl games matter so they ditch the bowl games. Bowl games used to mean something as far as pride goes and could even boost your stock as a draft hopeful but now everybody is trying to go the school that will offer them the most money or they enter the NFL draft early and skip the bowl game.

kind of like a coach who leaves for bigger pay day or a school who leaves a conference for a better TV deal. the Players are following the grown ups lead imo.

A potential fix might be to not open the transfer portal until January 2nd or after a team's bowl game. I don't know if it would work, but it's something I hope the NCAA would consider.

I actually don't blame the kids because some of these kids will never make it in the NFL but NIL offers them a chance to make some money while in college. NIL was something that I thought would make college sports better but it doesn't seem that way so much anymore with all the opt outs and guys not playing in these major bowl games.

I brought this up in another thread with the same idea but....
Here's why it won't work.

Players that enter the portal have to find a new home AND start school at their new home in the Spring (typically 1st or 2nd week of January). Why? So they are part of the school, can play in spring ball, and learn the new systems before the fall.

Moving the portal until after the bowl games doesn't provide enough time for this transition.

Sucks, but that's the big drawback.
