For someone with an addiction, including gambling, finding some less consequential way to get the fix is a bad idea.

Better not to gamble.

They don't tell alcoholics to just have a small shot.

Gambling addiction doesn't present when a problem gambler makes large wagers and chases.

Losing control during gambling is more often doen with a high volume of small wagers, repetive ones, and not a few large bets.

I mentioned before a counselor once told a poster to just bet $1 dollar and satisfy the urge. That counselor should lose their license.

Best thing for a problem gambler is abstinence.

The next best thing would be to teach them to win.

But teaching an addict to win won't work because it isn't about the plus and minus, it's about the loss of control.

I can teach that too, but there is a portion of the population, a small portion, that is simply not built to learn or stay in control. Those folks should never gamble.

I hope that makes sense and clears things up.

you are right KVB. what I was referring to was more a general thought that wagering on a small scale for those that choose to indulge is the way to go. I know for me I stopped drinking many years ago and would never even think of having just 1 beer. I was not an alcoholic but a problem drinker. So for those who are starting out in this gambling racket I would suggest play small, have fun, and don't bleed. THX KVB for helping me clear that post up. @KVB
