Glad I hit a $200 high hand and rallied back a bit because when I was down over $700 I was pretty peeved.

Yeah part of me is like I can't call there without a boat, but my read was on him having an ace with a lower kicker there, and that if he had a boat prior he would've shoved reraised prior like a donk so what can you do.

Only thing that made sense to me given the hand you presented step by step and how poor a player you said he was.

Hell I wouldn’t have even shoved if I was him. I’d have countered with a value bet of my own around $100. Given the pot size I’d have figured my opponent would have to call if he had anything.

He just got excited as hell when the 7 fell and shoved. He didn’t know any more creative way to play it.

And you almost had to call as poor a player as he was. It would have been a very tough hand to get away from.

He should have valued and I should've called value ($100 sounds about right) but not an all in, the tight player I think of myself as.

Look at the hand from his perspective and you'll see he wasn't a strong player. He's sititing on 7's and watching you raise each time. Every bet through he should have known he was giving his money away and got the hell out. Clearly one lucky SOB getting the river hit.
