Biggest Super Bowl LVI Line Moves and Betting Consensus Report

Table of Contents

There’s going to be nearly $8 billion wagered on the Super Bowl. Because of this, line movement is going to happen a whole bunch of times before the big game actually starts. Sportsbooks want to make sure they’re making money for the Super Bowl.

If they get a lot of action on one side, they’re going to bait you into getting action on the other side. They do that by moving the line to make one side more favorable than the other so they can get action on both sides of the wager.

Rams -4 (-110)

  • Opened -3.5 (-110)
  • Currently -4 (-110)

The Rams opened as a -3.5 point favorite but quickly jumped to a -4.5 favorite at most outlets. Since then, there’s been a lot of action on the Bengals which caused most books to go back down to -4.

Sportsbooks believe that they’ll eventually get more action on the Rams on Saturday and Sunday. But the Bengals backers are currently out early and as of now, the Bengals have more of the action, which caused the spread to drop from -4.5 to 4.

By the time the game starts, the Rams will likely be back at -4.5, so if you’re looking to bet the Rams, you should bet them now. If you’re looking to back the Bengals, you can wait for more action go hit the Rams, and bet the Bengals at +4.5 or potentially a number even higher than that. Personally, I like the Rams to win the Super Bowl as well.

However, the Bengals have been underdogs all season long and continue to defy NFL odds with brilliant quarterback play and a defense that randomly shows up when they’re needed the most. Rams quarterback, Matthew Stafford is always making mistakes under center and the Bengals pass rush is very solid.

It’s not as talented as the Rams, but the reality is, the Bengals have a great group on defense that shut down Patrick Mahomes a couple of weeks ago. This game is going to be tighter than Rams fans want to believe. Ultimately, we’ve got a game between two teams that haven’t won a Super Bowl in a little bit.

I’m happy regardless. If it’s Joe Burrow winning his first championship or it’s Stafford winning his first, I think the public will be happy regardless.

Total 49.5

  • Opened 49.5 (-110)
  • Currently 48.5 (-110)

The total has been interesting. The total opened at 49.5, reached 50.5, and then went back down to 48.5. This, despite most of the handle coming in on the over 48.5. I’m going to suggest that before kickoff, the total increases a bit.

A lot of the public in general want an exciting game and bet on the over. So sportsbooks are hoping for an uneventful Super Bowl with limited scoring and no big plays. The line movement kind of proves that the under seems like the play here, at least for now, but overall, I’m thinking this number increases a bit before the Super Bowl actually begins.
