Table of Contents

“AGGGUUUEEERROOOOO!!” one of the most famous and iconic pieces of Premier League commentary stems from Manchester City’s first Premier League title in 2011 when Aguero netted the winner in a 3-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers (QPR) to win the Premier League in the dying embers of the game with a 94th-minute goal. The Argentinean is a club Legend and has been in the Manchester City ranks for 10 years, but it seems it’s finally time for the 32-year-old to move on. So what’s next for Aguero?

Before we discuss what’s on the horizon for Aguero, here are some stats and facts about the Argentinean.

  • Aguero was born in Bueno Aires, Argentina in 1988
  • He began playing for Independiente at the age of nine and by the time he was 16 years old he was promoted to the senior squad, where he scored 23 goals in 54 appearances. Atletico Madrid forked out 20 million to purchase Aguero in 2006, this was a lot of money at the time, and it was Atletico’s record transfer fee at the time.
  • Aguero spent five seasons with Atletico and scored 74 goals in 175 appearances, he also won the Europa League with Atletico Madrid in 2009.
  • Aguero signed for Manchester City in the summer of 2011 for a reported 35 Million, which was very cheap considering his success at Atletico and subsequent success during his 10 year period with Man City, which seen him score 184 goals in 275 appearances.
  • Internationally Aguero has scored 41 goals in 97 appearances. At this point in his career, he has netted 333 goals in 623 appearances.
  • His nickname “Kun” is reportedly given to him by his grandparents regarding a TV show he used to watch as a kid.
  • Aguero is married to Diego Maradona’s daughter and his child’s godfather is no other than Lionel Messi as Aguero and Messi are close friends.
  • During his time at Man City, Aguero has won five Premier League titles and six League Cups as well as one FA cup.
  • Aguero is the fourth-highest goalscorer in the Premier Leagues’ history and has also netted no less than 12 hat tricks for the Citizens.

What’s Next?

Reports suggest he is going to be joining Barcelona, which at first might seem a little strange as Barcelona rarely sign players as old as Aguero, but when we realize he is close friends with Messi it makes sense.

Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola, bided an emotional farewell to Aguero. “Maybe I reveal a secret, maybe he is close to agreeing on a deal for the club of my heart, Barcelona”. After this statement, it seems very likely Barcelona will be Aguero’s next destination. This does lead us to think there could be some “club politics” happening here as Barcelona could be bringing in Aguero to try and convince Messi to stay, as his current status with the club is up in the air on whether he wants to leave or not.

We also have the small matter of Aguero’s reported wage, as he is currently on 230 thousand a week at Manchester City. One would feel he would have to take a wage cut in order to join the Catalans as Barcelona are reportedly in finical dire straits.

Should Aguero be 100% fit one would assume him to be an immediate starter in the squad. Barcelona struggled last season, although they went through a purple patch, they ultimately finished third in La Liga. They did manage to secure the Copa Del Ray, but in the overall scheme of things Barcelona untimely view this as their least important trophy.

Although it seems Aguero will be signing for Barcelona, there could be a move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) as they are not short of cash and Aguero may be tempted by the money. PSG still hasn’t won the Champions League, which is untimely their end goal in this big-money project, Aguero could help fix that problem.

Finally a return to Argentina wouldn’t be off the cards and one would suspect it is where he will end up eventually. He has expressed a desire to go back and end his career with Independiente.

We hope to see him stick around European football for another season or two as he has been nothing short of one of the best players in world football over the past 10 years on a consistent basis, were ever he may go we wish him luck and hope to see plenty more of those goals.
