This week, our golf expert @EdwardsTips previews the RBC Canadian Open, one of the most historic events on the PGA Tour schedule.

RBC Canadian Open

June 04 – June 08, 2025 – 06:45 AM EDT at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley

Course Notes

  • North Course
  • Par 70, 7444 yards
  • Bentgrass Poa Annua greens
  • Set in mature parkland and aesthetically pleasing to the eye with its lush generous fairways.
  • The key to unlocking a good score around TPC Toronto could be a strong short game in and around the challenging greens that have severe undulations and deep bunkering.
  • Rain and drizzle are forecast for the first three days of this year’s RBC Canadian Open, with the final day looking perfect scoring conditions.
  • Unusually, there is no course form to go on this week, except for an event on the Canadian PGA Tour last year when the Fortinet Cup Championship was held here in September.

Another telling factor this week is no Scottie Scheffler at the top of the market with the world #1 choosing to rest ahead of next week’s U.S. Open at Oakmont.

Can Young Finally Get Off the Mark in Canada?

It has been quite a journey for Cameron Young, a player whose ball striking in 2022 was good enough to give him great opportunities to win two major championships.

Whether or not those close misses in his rookie season have left their mark, only time will tell.  On the face of it, they appear to have, with the likely scar tissue accounting for the fact that the twenty-eight-year-old from New York is still a maiden and awaiting what would be an elusive first PGA Tour win.

All Signs Point North

Could this week’s event in Canada be the time it all comes together for Young? Certainly, this week’s agronomy and course setup looks heaven-sent for Young, whose game is coming around recently.

The evidence for that is not only in the results but in the stats with last week ranking Off-the-tee in 1st after an encouraging 7th at the Truist Championship four weeks ago.  The interesting thing for Young is that he has been better all year with the putter than in 2024, when it really undermined his already exposed confidence levels

If he can marry the off-the-tee game with a hot putter, this could be the week that he finally lands his first PGA tour title.

The Memorial Was the Life of Riley for Davis?

Last week’s signature Memorial Tournament highlighted the downside of having so many limited-field events: even highly ranked players like David Riley (#63) must wait around to see if they get in through a pre-event withdrawal.

Being at the top of the alternate list was probably one of the most frustrating experiences a player can have on the PGA Tour—waiting around all week only to face the disappointment of not getting a start.

Indeed, Riley would have been doubly frustrated given his strong showing the week prior at the PGA Championship, where he finished an impressive runner-up to Scottie Scheffler. That is good form in context of his price here, which is markedly above +5000 with many of our recommended sportsbooks.

His ability to shape the ball both ways and generous fairways through the mature forest land will be one key, but Riley’s most potent weapon this week is likely his brilliant, razor-sharp short game, given the undulating green complexes and challenging surrounds.
