The Titans absolutely dominated the Bills last season, 42-16. Now as nearly a touchdown underdog, can the Titans mirror that result for a second straight season? Let’s see the NFL odds.
Buffalo Bills vs. Tennessee Titans
Monday, October 18, 2021 – 8:15 PM EDT at Nissan Stadium
The Buffalo Bills are currently 4-1 and will now play a second primetime game in as many weeks. The first primetime game went well on Sunday Night Football, as the Bills defeated the Chiefs with an early lead and never looked back. Meanwhile, the Titans bounced back from an embarrassing loss to the Jets and defeated the Jaguars, 37-19, on the road to go 3-2 on the season.
The Titans are now healthy with A.J. Brown, Julio Jones, and Bud Dupree being full participants in full practice. The Titans’ offense can really show out with the amount of talent they have. While Tennessee is averaging just 26.4 points per game, they’re still averaging 419.2 yards per game and with Brown, Jones, and Henry available in this game, there’s reason to believe the Titans can score points on the offensive end against the Bills.
The Titans need as many points as they can get because the defense has been dreadful, allowing 26 points per game. They were the only defense to make the Jets look like an actual football team. That’s embarrassing. The Titans have struggled to stop the run and have really looked bad trying to make some tackles in the open field.
On the other hand, the Bills offense is averaging 34.4 points per game and allowing just 12.8 points per game. This Bills defense is fantastic in coverage and has a terrific pass rush. The Bills can be beaten in the run game, but teams fall early to the Bills and start throwing the football down the field, abandoning the run game and therefore losing.
We know the Titans won’t abandon the run game with Henry at running back, so there’s a chance that once the running game gets going, it’ll open up the passing game a bit for the Titans. The Bills are allowing just 266.6 yards per game on the defensive end and I’d be shocked if the season concluded and the Bills still allowed under 300 yards per game. It’s just really hard to sustain numbers like that in the NFL this season.
Prediction
I know the Bills won’t have much trouble getting the ball down the field in this one. The Titans can’t stop the run and have been pretty bad in coverage as well. However, I’d also expect the Titans to put some points on the board, at home, against the Bills.
There’s reason to believe the Titans can at least stick around and potentially win this game on Monday Night. I don’t have the guts to take the Titans on the money line or against the spread. For my NFL pick, instead, I’ll just take them over, knowing both of these offenses are more than capable of putting up points in this game.
