This weekend sees the eagerly anticipated start to the new NFL season, and here at Bookmakers Review, we bring readers our best bets for Week 1.
- Remember, it is a long season and in week 1, we are betting with less information than will be the case next week and onwards, so tailor your stakes accordingly.
- An exciting time for Football fans around the country as the franchises begin their campaigns.
- There are many mouth-watering cashes to open the new season, and BMR have targeted three top NFL matches for your bets.
For NFL Week 1, there is still much information to use for our bets, from pre-season matches, training camp, player interviews, and market moves.
Let us bet those NFL lines
The most popular betting lines for the NFL are the money line, spread (handicap), and total points
At BMR, we like to explain the reasons for what market we choose, and it is important to familiarize yourself with the nuances of NFL betting.
The key number of 3 (field goal) in betting the spread is discussed within both our opening picks while the last selection has a spread bigger than 7 (touchdown).
We begin with the opening match in Los Angeles as the Rams host the Houston Texans, whose star quarterback Matthew Stafford is returning from injury.
Houston Texans vs. L.A. Rams (-2.5)
Many NFL fans like the Rams’ chances this season given their talent at quarterback with Matthew Stafford as the no.1 choice, along with the league’s best franchise no.2 Jimmy Garoppolo.
That though, does not guarantee settling into the team’s best rhythm from the start. To fuel that fire further, Stafford missed significant practice in recent weeks at training camp.
Effectively, all season long the Rams have the goods at Quarterback, but for week 1 the Houston Texans look likely to be a tough nut to crack as their hustle is proven, being ranked highest in pressure pass disruption rate which is hardly ideal for an injured quarterback.
The only problem left to consider for bettors is where to take the value, on spread or money line? If the spread had hit the key number of 3, that would have been the option, that looks doubtful now, so let us go money line.
Expert Pick: Texans (+123) at Bookmaker
Las Vegas Raiders vs. New England Patriots (-3)
This second pick on the road dog the Las Vegas Raiders sees a fair bit of discrepancy from the layers with half the trusted sportsbooks at BMR, showing the key number of 3 while the other half 2.5. While the number remains at 3 may sure you take that, if not reduce your stake by 50% and take the money line.
The new Raiders head coach position is the experienced Pete Carroll, and he could be just what Sin City needs, having an immediate impact on the team. The signing of the 73-year-old coach from the Seahawks could provide a new sense of direction, after all, Carroll has few peers in the sport with a long list of accomplishments, the highlight being the 2013 Super Bowl.
The Raiders are also buoyed by the news of the return of wide receiver Amari Cooper from the Dallas Cowboys after seven years away, and this opening week could see the Raiders catch the Patriots cold in New England.
Expert Pick: Raiders +3 (-115) at Everygame
Tennessee Titans vs. Denver Broncos (-8.5)
How fortunes have changed in the NFL during the last twelve months for these two franchises. The Denver Broncos had a breakout season with a 10-7 record, whereas the Titans had a disaster with a 3-14 record.
That has set this line at over a touchdown in favor of the Broncos but the drafting of Cameron Ward at Quarterback could bring a quick change of direction for the Titans. We have seen the instant purchase that C.J. Stroud and Jayden Daniels brought their struggling franchises, and while it is a big ask for Ward to be as good, he is hugely well respected and the #1 draft pick.
Counter that with the expectations in Denver this year and pressure that brings, we have an interesting spot here to support the under dogs especially at well over the key number of 7.
Expert Pick: Tennessee Titans +8.5 (-110) at Bookmaker
