2025 Charles Schwab Challenge

May 22 – 25, 2025 at Colonial Country Club

Course Notes

  • Colonial Country Club
  • Fort Worth, Texas
  • Par 70, 7286 yards
  • Shot makers and creative players thrive at a tree lined quirky track that requires a more strategic approach than most weeks on the PGA Tour, where golfers need to move the ball both ways through the air.
  • Unusually, a different mix of grain with Bermuda grass fairways and rough but Bentgrass greens to further test the players.
  • It is a huge positive that many winners of the Charles Schwab have strong short games such as recent winners, Jordan Spieth, Daniel Berger and Davis Riley.  That fact is underlined further by multiple champions, Corey Pavin, Phil Mickelson and Zach Johnson fitting a similar profile.
  • This week’s forecast for Fort Worth is lovely sunshine all four days with the light winds strengthening throughout the tournament.

Will Jordan bring the creativity to Colonial?

Yes, at BMR, our golf expert believes that Jordan Spieth will bring the creativity to Colonial for the Charles Schwab Challenge this year.

The case for the thirty-one-year-old homeboy and superstar of the sport is simple and solid indeed.

Firstly, being able to sleep in his childhood bed surrounded by family and friends will be a huge plus this week, let alone playing a course you grew up on and know like the back of your hand.  That supremacy is illustrated by the most incredible modern day course record at the Colonial Country Club, with a win in 2016 and three runner-up finishes, along with four other top 10 finishes.

Secondly, after an injury blighted 2024, Spieth took the time in the off season for surgery on the troublesome wrist, followed by a period of rehabilitation away from the game, resulting in a delayed comeback for 2025, that started a month later than usual in February.

Finally, there has been many encouraging signs for Spieth during the current campaign with three top 10 finishes, and another three top 20 finishes.  Last week’s missed cut at the PGA does not worry me unduly given his poor record at Quail Hollow, in fact, having a few more days to prepare for this week could be a blessing in disguise.

The price of (+2200) for Jordan Spieth with Bovada is generous enough, given those circumstances, so add him in outright and props places for this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge.

Can Bezuidenhout bring his best form to the Colonial?

South African Cristiaan Bezuidenhout was an eye catcher last week in the early rounds at Quail Hollow in the PGA Championship, eventually finishing down the field in 58th at a track that will not suit his game like Colonial.

The thirty-one-year-old Springbok has accumulated an impressive resume of form in his brief PGA Tour career here at Colonial with three top 25 finishes in succession.

Interestingly, his maiden DP World Tour win was at Valderama in Spain, one of the quirkiest tracks in Europe, and like Colonial, one that cannot be overpowered, requiring a strategic more patient approach.

Furthermore, Bezuidenhout is not the longest off the tee, and that prejudices his results many weeks of the year, but this is one week when he can excel with his neat tee-to-green golf, combined with his brilliant short game.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout fits that remit perfectly this week, so at BMR we are suggesting using our best sportsbook, BetOnline who have a great range of prop markets, and this we can have a strong bet on the top 20 prop combined with an outright win.
