Canelo vs. Scull Analysis: A Warm-Up Fight for Alvarez

I won’t sit here and proclaim Scull stands a chance of shocking the world this weekend. Apologies to my plus-money hunters, but it’s simply not going to happen.

The sad truth is: Canelo Alvarez wants his undisputed status back (He was stripped of the IBF title) by regaining the IBF strap to match with the WBC, WBO, and WBA titles. Secondly, he needs to stay active, as Scull will unquestionably be a warm-up fight because many boxing insiders expect a huge clash with the likes of Terence Crawford later this year for Canelo’s second bout under Turki.

Therefore, it would almost feel counter-productive to sit here and grind through what William Scull is or is not skilled at in terms of boxing. He’s levels below Canelo in terms of skill set and experience, but at least he will get a payday for his efforts.

How to Make Money Betting Canelo This Weekend

So, the big question is: How do you bet on Canelo vs. Scull and make money?

If you aren’t already aware, the average moneyline price for Canelo sits close to -5000. The likes of BookMaker (visit our Bookmaker Review) do present a significantly greater price of -3250. However, even then, it leaves very little up to the imagination when those odds still present a 97% implied probability of success.

Scull is undefeated, but when you compare his career opponents to Canelo, it’s not even close. The speed and footwork of Scull are noteworthy, and defensively, this could work wonders when attempting to avoid becoming Canelo’s 40th career knockout victim.

Prediction and Best Bet

The available odds at the top sportsbooks are fair, as crazy as that seems. However, for serious bettors looking to boost their bankroll, we’re pushed into a corner of approaching prop bets only.

With that said, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a magnified sparring session this weekend, particularly as Canelo won’t need to put himself in danger and deliver a technical masterclass to walk away victorious. And, as mentioned, Scull has the defensive skills to avoid unconsciousness, thus making a Canelo to win by decision prop a likely outcome we can get behind.

When you look at the bigger picture, Canelo hasn’t knocked an opponent down since 2021 (Caleb Plant), his previous six competitive bouts have gone the distance, and Scull, despite not facing an opponent of Canelo’s calibre, has never been knocked out in 23 pro bouts.
