The 2022 March Madness bracket is all set. Some really good teams missed out on the Tournament while other teams that were questionable will have a chance at competing for the National title.

After all, you get over 30 games to boost your resume. If you make it close, there’s always that possibility of not making the Tournament.

It’s interesting to think about. We’re going to have a tournament without popular names like Virginia, Syracuse, Oregon, and Oklahoma. But only Oklahoma really deserved a chance to make the tournament on Selection Sunday.

Oklahoma, in my eyes, was the biggest snub. The Sooners had a balanced group that had some big wins this season. However, the Sooners started the season with a 12-3 record and then ended up 18-15 with a regular conference record of 7-11. That’s just not going to cut it after all.

Rutgers

A team like Rutgers will have to revisit how it schedules games. Rutgers lost games to Lafayette and UMass in the non-conference slate and despite being the fourth-best team in the Big Ten, the Scarlet Knights almost missed the NCAA Tournament.

Rutgers had a poor three-game stretch where they lost to DePaul first and then Lafayette and UMass. Then later in the season, in the Big 10, Rutgers had a four-game stretching of beating Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Illinois. The Scarlet Knights also had wins over Iowa, Michigan, and Purdue throughout the season. Despite that terrible November, Rutgers deserved it more than anyone for how it played this season.

Out of the one seeds, I like Baylor to lose first. The Baylor Bears won the NCAA Tournament last season but will have a really tough time in the East Region. After the first game, Baylor will take on North Carolina or Marquette. Then from there, if Baylor wins against the 8/9 seed, the Bears would have to face St. Mary’s, Indiana/Wyoming, or UCLA most likely. Baylor ultimately has the toughest road for anyone seed starting in the Round of 32.

Upset

If you’re looking for an upset NCAA pick, just look at the Midwest Region. The Auburn Tigers have been awful on the road and struggle in neutral games. Wisconsin has won so many tight games but analytically, aren’t that appealing. Same with Providence, who will be a four seed in the region. The luck factor really helped them until the Friars lost by 30 to Creighton when it mattered.

Teams that can upset in the Midwest include USC, LSU, and Creighton. I still really like Kansas and believe they’ll be hard to beat, but overall, many teams in the bottom half of the region have a chance to make the Elite Eight.

Lastly, if you’re looking for a big mid-major upset, look no further than Vermont over Arkansas. We say this every year with Vermont and every year Vermont falls short. But this is Vermont’s best team since its consistent run in the America East. A win over Arkansas wouldn’t surprise me at all.
