The Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks hook up Wednesday from Milwaukee and the NBA oddsmakers have the Bucks as solid -4 favorites, with a total of 227 points.

Milwaukee was on a pretty nasty slide over the last few weeks before blowing the Charlotte Hornets out of the water on Monday. Before their win over the Hornets, the Bucks had lost four of their last five games and some of them, their defense absolutely fell apart.

Seeing the Bucks struggle at this point in the season isn’t too concerning. The defending champs are probably all feeling tired of the regular season and even against marquee opponents, it’s hard to get as amped up about playing those games if you’re the Bucks compared to their opponents playing against the defending champs.
Tonight may not be much different, even at home for the Bucks. NBA odds bettors have been pumping money into the Heat so far since the odds came out and it has forced the line down from +4.5 to +4.

Miami has proven its ability to bring its best effort on the road. Their defense is equally as impressive both at home or on the road and as we’ve seen from past matchups, Bam Adebayo may be the most effective defender of Giannis Antetokounmpo we have in the entire NBA.
They’ll need all of Adebayo’s ability in this one. The Greek Freak has been on fire lately, averaging more than 32 points per game over the month of February. However, with this being the fourth time these two have played this season, I expect the defense to be the main site of the ball worth watching. They are very familiar with one another by this point.
Milwaukee needs a win here to even up the season series (Miami leads 2-1 now) and at home, their defense should be up to the task, even though it’s been somewhat shaky recently. With that in mind, I think a play on the total is the one for us here.
Milwaukee has slipped out of the defensive rating metrics some lately. They rank just outside of the top 10 in home defensive rating at 108.3, but, lately, things have fallen even further at home.
Milwaukee owns a 114.9 defensive rating over their last 10 home games and while they are 6-4 SU during that stretch, if they don’t bring their best effort defensively tonight, they are going to lose this game SU and ATS.
That being said, I think the motivation to even the season series and give them a chance at breaking any seeding ties will be enough motivation to ramp up a defense here.
As long as we get that, the under has some nice value here. Miami ranks third-best in the NBA in road defense and their pace of fewer than 97 possessions per game on the road will also help cash the under here.
Miami’s game plans this season against fast-paced teams have been to out-defend and slow them down. For my NBA picks, I expect more of the same tonight against the Bucks.
