Today’s Plays Include a (+285) NHL Parlay (Archive)

Originally published on April 7, 2022

Now that’s what I’m talking about: On Tuesday, we hit a three-way NHL parlay at +395! Let’s keep it rolling Thursday opposite MLB’s Opening Day. Here are three games we like for a three-way NHL parlay pick for Thursday with NHL odds from BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), one of BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Carolina Hurricanes

Thursday, April 07, 2022 – 07:30 PM EDT at PNC Arena

If you happen to have Hulu, this game is being streamed there as well as on ESPN+. One of our wins Tuesday was on Buffalo on the puck line at home Tuesday vs. Carolina priced -125 at +1.5. I simply thought that was a great price on a home team because Buffalo has been cash money at home of late.

The Sabres won outright 4-2 with Victor Olofsson’s 19th goal of the season at 12:08 the eventual winner and Dylan Cozens clinching it with his 13th of the year at 15:11. Craig Anderson at 40 years old was great with 32 saves. Nino Niederreiter had a goal and an assist for Carolina, Jesper Fast also scored and Frederik Andersen stopped 18 shots.

Carolina still leads the Metropolitan Division (barely) but has lost back-to-back games in regulation, a rarity this year. The Canes are again looking to reach 100 points for the second time in franchise history. I absolutely believe Tuesday’s loss was a wake-up call: "At the end of the day, that game was unacceptable the way we played", Niederreiter said

We could see backup Antti Raanta in net for Carolina in this one, but he has been very good at 11-4-4 with a 2.39 GAA and .917 SV. This is a big price, but you need one near-sure win to anchor your parlay. Carolina has won 12 straight when playing the second of a home-and-home situation. Buffalo has lost six straight in North Carolina.

Nashville Predators vs. Ottawa Senators

Thursday, April 07, 2022 - 07:00 PM EDT at Canadian Tire Centre

These teams just played on March 29 in Nashville and the Predators won 4-1 behind two goals from Michael McCarron and 36 saves from Juuse Saros. So why take the Senators on the puck line here? Well, they did lead that first meeting 1-0 early on, and when you have a team at +1.5 and they jump out 1-0, you are going to win much, much more often than when you lose.

Frankly, that 4-1 score was misleading as the Senators outshot the Predators 37-32 and had just two penalty minutes: “I think we out-chanced them”, Ottawa coach D.J. Smith said. “I think we probably outplayed them.”

Ottawa is 3-0 since, with all three victories by at least three goals, and the Senators are simply a much better team on home ice (19-16 ATS). Goaltender Anton Forsberg has allowed three goals or less in eight straight starts and has a 2.38 GAA and .927 SV over that stretch.

This also could be a bit of a “sandwich” game for Nashville off a huge home win over Minnesota on Tuesday and another home game vs. Stanley Cup favorites Florida on Thursday. Could be backup David Rittich’s turn in net as well.

Nashville is 1-4 in its past five on the road and we don’t even need a Preds loss. Just a one-goal win or overtime.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

Thursday, April 07, 2022 - 07:00 PM EDT at Nationwide Arena

In these NHL parlay picks, we are trying to pinpoint teams with something to play for, usually at home, against a club with zero motivation, and on the road. That’s what we have here. Philadelphia has long been eliminated from playoff contention, while Columbus still has an outside shot at a Wild-Card spot but has to get hot right now.

These teams played Tuesday in Philly and the Blue Jackets won 4-2. The Jackets blew an early 2-0 lead but Justin Danforth’s eighth goal of the season at 13:16 of the third broke a 2-2 tie, and Sean Kuraly’s 12th of the year on an empty-net clinched it. Elvis Merzlikins stopped 47 shots to help Columbus snap a seven-game skid. Merzlikins' 47 saves were the second-most in his NHL career.

"The whole story of this game was their goalie", Flyers coach Mike Yeo said. "We should have had a pretty darn good lead after two periods."

Once a team ends a long losing streak, it often wins at least a few in a row. Merzlikins should be back in there Thursday and he has been much better at home with a 13-8-4 record and .908 save percentage. Columbus is 18-14-4 at home and Philly 9-20-5 on the road. While Carter Hart started in net Tuesday for the Flyers, it will be backup Martin Jones on Thursday. He’s 6-10-1 on the road.

Philadelphia is 3-13 in its past 16 trips to Columbus. The Jackets are 8-2 in their past 10 as home favorites for the best sportsbooks
