Maple Leafs vs. Blue Jackets Free NHL Picks and Odds Breakdown (Archive)

Originally published on March 7, 2022

Just under two weeks since these teams last met each other, a game in which the Blue Jackets came away as 4-3 winners at +200 underdogs.  They snatched the win in that game in overtime, will they do so again tonight at NHL odds of +185.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

Monday, March 7, 2022 – 07:00 PM EST at Nationwide Arena

Inconsistent Leafs Strike Again

All we have to do is look back on the Maple Leafs previous 20 NHL games to see that not one of them resulted in two wins or two losses over the course of three games. Here is their record (W/W/W/L/L/W/W/L/L/L/W/W/L/L).

It’s been a worrying time for their goaltenders who cannot seem to find any sort of steady form. Jack Campbell has allowed 2.61 goals per game this season and allowed 14 goals in his previous three starts. Their second goaltender in the rotation Petr Mrazek has allowed 3.22 goals this season but over his previous three starts he has allowed only 9 goals. They will not be going anywhere in the playoff with these goaltenders performing like this.

Toronto are currently 3rd in the Atlantic division and top-rated sportsbooks have them as favorites.

Columbus Bang Out of Form

Since the Blue Jackets had a purple patch that included a four-game winning streak, they were unlikely winners against the Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers during that winning streak. Unfortunately for the Blue Jackets fans who thought that was the beginning of a playoff run for them, it wasn’t to be. Since then they have only won 1 of their previous 5 games and allowed 19 goals in the process, almost five goals per game.

Columbus finds themselves 10 points behind the Washington Capitals in the battle for the final playoff spot, the only thing going for them is the fact they have one extra game to play, but that’s still an 8 point lead even if they were to win the extra game. It’s going to be very hard for them to catch the Capitals.

Betting Predictions

We don’t generally play underdogs here but we believe this is the perfect scenario to oppose the Maple Leafs, their value is appalling and the Blue Jackets have proven to us they are capable of beating this Maple Leafs team in this matchup

It’s a numbers game and we believe the Blue Jackets hold value to win here possibly as low as +130, we have a lot of value here. This Columbus team and Maple Leafs team are offensively very strong combing for an average of 6.91 goals per game, both offenses rank inside the NHL’s top ten offenses. We absolutely love the over here but feel taking a 7.0 line is pointless as we would be needing 8 goals to cash and laying -140 on an over is a lot of juice so we will pass on the over and roll with the Blue Jackets to pick up a win on home ice over the Maple Leafs.
