Best NBA Player Prop Bets Today (April 6) (Archive)

Originally published on April 6, 2022

It’s a six-game schedule around the NBA on Wednesday. Some teams still have reason to care, while others are playing out the string.

Here are three NBA prop picks for the night via BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), one of BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks.

Brooklyn Nets vs. New York Knicks

Wednesday, April 06, 2022 – 07:30 PM EDT at Madison Square Garden

Kevin Durant

ESPN has the telecast of this matchup between city rivals – although the game doesn’t really mean that much. The Knicks have long been eliminated from playoff contention in a hugely disappointing season and you won’t see Derrick Rose or Julius Randle again this season. Randle might be traded this summer.

Brooklyn will be in the Play-In tournament but could improve its seeding in it, so I’d imagine the Nets play all their starters other than Seth Curry, who is likely out the rest of the regular season with a minor injury. He’ll be fine for the tourney.

It is the second of a back-to-back for Brooklyn after easily handling Houston 118-105 on Tuesday. It almost feels like before each game, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving decide who will go off in said game and then it’s the other guy’s turn in the next outing.

More Picks: Nets vs. Knicks NBA Odds, Preview and Pick

Irving was the main guy Tuesday with 42 points on 24 shots. Durant attempted only 13 shots and finished with 18 points a game after scoring a career-high 55 points in Atlanta.

The last time the Nets faced the Knicks, on March 13, Durant scored 53 points. His three games of at least 50 points are the most in a season for a player age 33 or older in NBA history. Durant is averaging 29.9 ppg on the season and 40.0 ppg in two games vs. New York.

The Knicks aren’t going to be playing any defense tonight as they already are making golf plans.

Boston Celtics vs. Chicago Bulls

Wednesday, April 06, 2022 - 08:00 PM EDT at United Center

Nikola Vucevic

This could be a first-round Eastern Conference playoff preview. Boston currently sits second in the East and will finish anywhere from there to fourth. Chicago sits sixth and can’t get lower than that but could get as high as fifth.

That the Bulls clinched avoiding the play-in tournament with Cleveland’s loss in Orlando on Tuesday makes me think that Zach LaVine absolutely will miss a second straight game tonight and that leading scorer DeMar DeRozan might sit as well. These guys need to rest up for the postseason.

More Picks: Top NBA Parlay Picks for April 6

Even if DeRozan plays, I like Nikola Vucevic here because NBA players have pride and he was terrible in Tuesday’s home blowout loss to the Bucks with just seven points on 3-for-19 shooting and six rebounds in 26 minutes.

Remember that Boston lost starting center and Defensive Player of the Year candidate Robert Williams for the rest of the regular season (and likely at least one playoff round) about a week ago. That hugely opens up the paint. While Vucevic scores most of his points as a jump-shooter, no Williams should lead to double-digit rebounds.

Thus, we’d only need 17 points for Vucevic to go over this total. He averages 17.9 points and 11.2 rebounds on the season so let's lay the juice with the current NBA odds

NBA Prop Pick: Nikola Vucevic Over 26.5 Points + Rebounds (-125) at BetOnline

Dallas Mavericks vs. Detroit Pistons

Wednesday, April 06, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at Little Caesars Arena

Dwight Powell

The game is meaningless for the Pistons and it’s in fact better for them to lose for NBA Draft lottery reasons. Dallas still has the motivation of trying to finish as high as third in the Western Conference, currently fourth but only a game behind No. 3 Golden State.

Injury-wise, the Mavericks remain without big man Maxi Kleber with right ankle soreness. That means plenty of minutes again for the Canadian Dwight Powell, and he might top this total in points alone.

In Sunday’s 118-112 win at Milwaukee, Powell was terrific with 22 points, 13 rebounds and an assist. It was his second game of the season and fourth career with 20+ points and 10+ rebounds.

Unlike most big men, he’s very good at the free-throw line, going 6-for 6 on Sunday and hitting about 80 percent on the season. Powell has topped 20.5 points + rebounds + assists in three of his past four games overall.

When Powell scores in double-digit points this season, the Mavericks are a stellar 26-6. Powell has appeared in all 79 of Dallas’ games in 2021-22 and is one of only five players NBA-wide to appear in each of his team’s games this year. Coaches like to reward guys like that with touches so let's bank on Powell for our last NBA prop pick of the day.
