Let’s get a great weekend of NBA and college basketball started with some winning NBA prop picks Friday from BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review).

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Philadelphia 76ers

Friday, March 4, 2022 – 07:00 PM EST at Wells Fargo Center

Joel Embiid vs. Jarrett Allen

This could be an Eastern Conference playoff preview and it’s a matchup of All-Star centers in Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid and Cleveland’s Jarrett Allen. Actually, Allen has the Sixers’ James Harden to thank for being named an All-Star as Allen got a spot when Harden had to pull out of the game with his hamstring injury.

Embiid ranks eighth in the NBA in rebounding at 11.1 per game and Allen is right behind at 11.0. My thinking in taking Allen here, at a nice plus-number, is that the Cavaliers have a few other big bodies like Evan Mobley and Kevin Love to help deal with Embiid at times, thus freeing up Allen from getting into foul trouble but also allowing him to pull down rebounds if Embiid is shooting jump shots.

The Pick

Allen has recorded six double-doubles in his last 10 games and ranks among the NBA leaders this season in field goal percentage (second at .674) and double-doubles (T-7th). In fact, Allen has two more double-doubles than Embiid does. Allen is -140 for another one tonight and I like that, too.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

Friday, March 4, 2022 – 08:00 PM EST at Paycom Center

D’Angelo Russell

We won a points + rebounds + assists props on Minnesota’s D’Angelo Russell early this week, and we are going back to him tonight in Oklahoma City, which is going to be extremely short-handed due to injury – my only concern with this prop is that the Timberwolves might get way ahead and pull their starters. Although with the game being played in OKC, that should help the Thunder stay in it until mid-fourth quarter.

Starting Wolves guard Anthony Edwards will not play for a second straight game due to a knee injury. Someone has to replace those 21.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Obviously, Russell won’t do that by himself, but his backcourt partner Patrick Beverley is not a good offensive player. Thus, Russell should get a ton of shots/assist opportunities

The Pick

With Edwards out Tuesday vs. the Warriors, Russell was 8-for-17 from the field for 22 points, seven assists and three rebounds – a total of 32 combined points + rebounds + assists. He actually had that same exact combined total on Monday, in Cleveland, when we won with him and Edwards was available.

Russell has led the team in points 10 times this season and in assists 31 times. He also has had 10 points/assists double-doubles.

NBA Prop Pick: D’Angelo Russell Over 33.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists (-110) at BetOnline

New York Knicks vs. Phoenix Suns

Friday, March 4, 2022 – 10:00 PM EST at Footprint Center

RJ Barrett

The second game of an ESPN doubleheader with Bucks-Bulls being the first. The Knicks absolutely suck, and I don’t know how they can justify keeping Coach Tom Thibodeau after this disaster of a season.

New York has lost six straight, 16 of 19 and is five games out of the final play-in tournament spot in the East. I’m not even sure the Knicks win five more games, much less get to that spot.

There has been one major bright spot of late and that’s the emergence of RJ Barrett as the team’s clear No. 1 offensive option over Julius Randle, who has taken a step back from his excellent 2021-22 season.

Barrett isn’t exactly shooting the ball great right now, but he’s getting a ton of shots – at least 22 in each game since the All-Star break. In those three games, Barrett is averaging 33.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists in nearly 39 minutes per night.

That’s so typical of Thibodeau to play his most important player that many minutes when his team is getting routed every night. Another reason why he'll likely be fired.

“I don’t think anybody is surprised or should be surprised,” Miami’s Jimmy Butler said last week after Barrett’s career-high 46-point outburst. “He’s definitely going to be … the face of the Knicks.”

The Pick

Rather shockingly, Barrett has a lower points + rebounds + assists total tonight than Randle does. I can’t understand that and we'll capitalize on that for our last NBA pick

NBA Prop Pick: RJ Barrett over 32.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists (-109) at BetOnline
