UFC Vegas 54: Blachowicz vs. Rakic Lock on the Card

Well… last week’s UFC card went…. Well… I… Yeah.

A lot happened last week in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s 274th premium live event, and we return to the baby cage inside the UFC Apex this week as light heavyweights headline the card as Jan Blachowicz and Aleksandar Rakic face off in our main event.

Jan Blachowicz vs. Aleksandar Rakic

UFC Light Heavyweight Main Event Bout

Saturday, May 07, 2022 – 10:05 PM EDT at UFC Apex Center

The Matchup

This fight was supposed to happen two months ago, but the former UFC light heavyweight champion had to pull out due to injury, which is a big problem for a guy who walking into his fight against Glover Teixeira had a killer run, stopping three opponents in the middle of his five-fight winning streak, which includes a decision win over Israel Adesanya.

But a split decision win in that run against Jacare Souza is not a great indicator for the former champion, who faces a man in Aleksandar Rakic, who defeated a common opponent in Thiago Santos, and you have to take common opponents seriously in situations like this to create a “Composite Opponent” for your fighters and see where one was successful and the other was unsuccessful.

For me, the favorite Rakic could pull out the win, especially since Blachowicz is recovering from injury and losing his world championship via submission, but per BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), your best bet in the main event would be taking O 4 ½ rounds at -110 and cheer for the GRIIIIIIND.

But don’t worry those who embrace the pain… There are other fights on the card, as the women’s flyweight division is featured on the main card with Kaitlyn Chookagian returning to the Octagon riding a three-fight winning streak as she battles Amanda Ribas, who is coming off a decision win over Virna Jandiroba.

Kaitlyn Chookagian vs. Amanda Ribas

UFC Flyweight Co-Main Event Bout

Saturday, May 07, 2022 – 10:05 PM EDT at UFC Apex Center

The Matchup

While Ribas is the +150 underdog in this matchup, you can’t fade her wins over Paige VanZant, Randa Markos, and Mackenzie Dern, especially as Chookagian’s leveling up fights have not gone the way she would have wanted.

Yet, Chookagian’s level of opponent is QUITE different compared to Ribas, with Valentina Shevchenko and Jessica Andrade defeating her in major showdowns…but.

Chookagian has gotten a win over Jennifer Maia, who is not a jabroni in her last fight, and what makes Chookagian dangerous is that she is a “Round Vampire” who just sucks the life out of rounds to get the win against her opponent, which is what’s gonna happen this Saturday night in Vegas.

The Outcome

Both of these fighters have the chance to steal this one, but go with the Over to brace yourself and keep your eye on the Chookagian money line to ensure you have a fairly decent Saturday night watching the fights. Don't forget to place your wager at a top-rated sportsbook.
