UFC in Vegas 41 Hot Prospect: Gregory “Robocop” Rodrigues (10-3-0)

29-year-old Gregory Rodrigues makes his anticipated return to the octagon this weekend. The Brazilian-born mixed martial artist has fans and critics alike intrigued to see how far his current win streak can extend.

Rodrigues turned professional in 2014, which would have most believe he's inexperienced. However, as a former world and national Brazilian Jiu-jitsu champion, he's been accustomed to competitive martial arts competition since an early age.

The Brazilian's striking offense has come a long way. Despite losing his opportunity to sign with the UFC in September 2020 following a Dana Whites Contender Series loss, he returned to LFA (Legacy Fighting Championship) and collected their middleweight title.

Dana White and the UFC couldn't ignore this accomplishment and instantly signed Rodrigues before he could defend the belt. Upon his arrival, a unanimous decision victory over the undefeated Dusko Todorovic made people notice his potential.

Gregory Rodrigues Fighter Analysis

The submission threat of Rodrigues is a no-brainer, but the 6-foot 3 middleweight is beginning to show more contempt in his striking offense. To add, the brute strength behind the Brazilian's posture makes his ground top position a hellish situation to be in.

Rodrigues is highly effective in his takedown offense, from single-leg takedowns, double leg takedowns, and Judo background that gifts him the ability to trip his foes.

His striking offense is still evolving, but we can see a great selection of extremely precise shots. He doesn't mind pressuring his opponents with volume but owns a great counter offense from his back foot.

With that said, the mat is where he truly shines. A consistent activity with his transitions is always looking for a more significant position, and he offers up multiple fight-finishing moves in half guard, side guard, and of course, full mount.

Rodrigues vs. Park Betting Pick & Odds

This weekend's UFC in Vegas 41 preliminary card will put Gregory Rodrigues against Jun Yong Park, a 30-year-old Korean native who's also looked impressive during his UFC tenure.

The oddsmakers were confident in Park when opening his odds at -170; however, the betting public is uncertain on this matchup as we're now looking at an even -110 on each side.

Park won’t have any answers for Rodrigues' ground game, a position where the Korean has found much success. I believe the striking battle presents some unanswered questions, but I struggle to ignore how dangerous Rodrigues has looked during his professional MMA career, making him the viable betting pick this weekend.
