Aspen Ladd vs. Norma Dumont

UFC Women’s Featherweight Main Event Bout

Saturday, October 16, 2021 – 09:05 PM EDT at UFC Apex Center

Norma Dumont

Brazilian native mixed martial artist Norma Dumont was initially trained in Sanda during her teenage years. A stint away from the sport eventually led her back into professional competition, where she became a six-time Sanda champion, both in her state and at a national level.

Sanda is a form of Chinese boxing/kickboxing. Despite her lack of knockout finishes during her professional MMA tenure, her desired offense is often witnessed through her recognizable striking skillset.

Although Dumont excels at kickboxing, her Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt has assisted her with two career submission finishes. In addition, a robust set of hips and a powerful core strength makes her a difficult opponent to takedown.

Aspen Ladd

Former Invicta FC contender and current number #10 ranked pound-for-pound UFC women’s contender Aspen Ladd finally returns following a two-year absence.

Aged just 26-years-old, the room for improvement with Ladd’s well-rounded skill set could prove her doubters wrong since we previously saw in her action. But without seeing her compete for such an extended period, we have to make our predictions based on what we’ve seen.

Outside of her vicious finishing ability, Ladd’s most impressive attribute is her heart. When her chips are down, she’s proven to overcome adversity on multiple occasions – most impressively when finishing Yana Kunitskaya in the 3rd round, following a losing first two rounds.

The Bookmakers Review’s current UFC odds are moving in favor of Dumont, and let’s not ignore the elephant in the room (no pun intended).

Still, Aspen Ladd missed weight for a scheduled bantamweight bout versus Macy Chiasson just two weeks ago. Now, she’s moved up a weight class to compete against a dangerous striker in Norma Dumont, who’s been preparing for a five-round battle with Holly Holm.

This isn’t an easy choice to make, but my gut feeling tells me that Norma Dumont is going to own a significant striking advantage, and if Ladd fails to ground this fight, she’s in for a long night of technical kickboxing.
