The PGA Tour moves to the Southern Hills Country Club, Oklahoma this week for the second major championship of the season, the PGA Championship. Below, we’ll break down how to bet on this championship and share some of our favorite winning picks!
2022 PGA Championship

What to Expect from Southern Hills?
The last time that major championship golf at the PGA Tour level came to Tulsa, Tiger Woods won the 2007 PGA Championship when barely being able to take a driver off the tee.
Since there have been serious renovations by Gil Hanse at the course making the tree-lined fairways wider by reducing the density of the trees.
There’s also been a major change to the putting surface surrounds, in 2007 and 2001 when Retief Goosen won the U.S. Open at the track, there were no roll-off areas around the bentgrass greens, just dense, thick-rough.
By doing this they’ve allowed more flexibility for the pin positions than ever before at Southern Hills. Gil Hansen explains this better in a recent quote when he said:
“At Southern Hills, the green contours really occur on the periphery of the greens. A lot of them roll-off to the edges. The players are going to learn to respect the edges of those greens because if you get anywhere near them, your approach is going off.”
Can Tiger Woods Win Southern Hills?
I think, there’s every chance Tiger Woods will put in a strong effort at the scene of his 2007 PGA Championship win this week. It’s a little far-fetched or something of a fairy tale to believe that Woods could win on his second start back since his horrendous car crash at the beginning of 2021.
At the time, there was serious doubt as to whether golf’s greatest would grace the PGA Tour’s fairways again, but his comeback performance at Augusta National in the Masters’ Tournament dispelled those fears.
Tiger Woods finished 47th at the Masters, it was a remarkable performance and in truth, he tired over the weekend in testing conditions because his fitness was understandably lacking. It was obvious afterward that Woods has been preparing himself like a champion with a strenuous workout schedule from early morning through to post-round.
Tiger Woods Betting Prediction
With that Masters’ performance behind him, we can expect Tiger Woods to strip fitter a month on, and stamina not be an issue. He’s also been spotted over at Southern Hills on numerous occasions preparing meticulously as he does.
He has those good vibes from 2007 when he daren’t use his driver, now his body won’t care about that, and it can only be a good thing that power won’t be a prevalent issue at Southern Hills.
We’ve all seen Caddyshack and Bill Murray’s ‘Cinderella Story’ and those who remember his last Masters’ triumph will not be able to rule out the Big Cat’s chances this week.
I like Tiger Woods to make a Top 10 finish at +700 this week and you never know, that ‘Cinderella Story’ might just happen and the longshot price of +6600 betting odds with Everygame is unmissable for a couple of dollars.
Tiger Woods’s Best Bets
Shane Lowry: PGA Player Profile
In 2009, Byeong-Hun An won the U.S. Amateur at the track, he’s always been the most impressive of ball strikers and funnily enough, his other high profile victory was at, the European Tour’s flagship event, the PGA Championship at Wentworth which is another high-quality tree-lined course.
From the Wentworth correlation, two players’ chances stick out to me. Firstly, the 2019 Open Champion, Shane Lowry has the most impressive plethora of form at the Surrey track in England with nine top 20 finishes in the last eleven years. Wentworth form could be the key to unlocking Southern Hills this week.
The Irishman hasn’t won since the 2019 Open Championship, but he’s become a model of consistency, particularly at major championships. He was 4th at last year’s PGA Championship at Kiawah Island and 3rd at last month’s Masters Tournament.
This week looks like the perfect opportunity for the thirty-five-year-old Shane Lowry to win a second major championship so take the attractive price of +4000 betting odds with GTbets.

Matthew Fitzpatrick Player Profile
We are going to stick with the Wentworth connection for our final PGA Championship best golf pick of Matthew Fitzpatrick.
The young Englishman is searching for his first PGA Tour title, but don’t be fooled that he can’t win because he’s accumulated seven European Tour titles and an impressive affinity with Wentworth.
Don’t be fooled either that Byeong Hun An is our only correlation with Wentworth as the 2007 PGA Championship here saw Anders Hansen place in 12th and 2nd as Top European, interestingly, he was a two-time winner of the PGA Championship at Wentworth.
He fished 3rd at the Heritage Classic on his final start fits the trend of 50% of PGA Championship winners in the last 15 years that have been placed in the top 5 on their previous start, so believe the omen and take Matthew Fitzpatrick in the Win at +5000 and Top 10 markets amongst BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks.
