Bellator Lightweight Championship Main Event
Friday, November 5, 2021 – 08:00 PM EDT at 3Arena
Ireland’s love affair with MMA across the previous decade has been no secret. The superstardom reached by Conor McGregor has been attempted, but still to this day, never emulated. A training partner of SBG Ireland’s most prized asset, Peter Queally, is attempting to etch his own journey in mixed martial arts when he walks into the 3Arena in Dublin this Friday night.
The 32-year-old Waterford native will be the first Irish fighter to compete for a major world championship on home soil. Should Queally repeat his former success against Patrick Pitbull and take the victory, he’ll become the first-ever Irish-born world champion for Bellator MMA.
Peter Queally Best Odds: To Win (+211) at Heritage Sports (visit our Heritage Sports Review)
The Pitbull brothers are a formidable name amongst MMA promotions, and it was Patricky Freire who once dominated the Bellator lightweight rankings before an eventual move to RIZIN. Bellator 258 in May of this year saw the highly anticipated return of Pitbull when he was matched with Peter Queally. A two-year layoff was soon forgotten about when the Brazilian stood toe to toe with Peter Queally.
Pitbull’s takedown offense proved to trouble Queally until the Irishman threw up strikes of his back, causing a laceration so damaging, officials were forced to stop the contest and award Queally with the win.
A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu background and fight-ending amount of power has been the story of Patricky’s MMA career; giving up a notable size advantage in most of his contests hasn’t prevented Pitbull from becoming one of the worlds most talented martial artists.
Patricky Pitbull Best Odds: To Win (-250) at YouWager (visit our YouWager Review)
Queally is a well-rounded fighter, but his takedown defense is an obvious flaw; it’s a striking battle where Queally can utilize his range where the Irishman found most of his success during the first encounter with Pitbull.
Despite the grappling disadvantage, many advantages will favor Queally. His large frame could be an issue for Pitbull and a cardiovascular that is evidently stronger than his opponents.
Pitbull’s grappling skillset was the clear difference-maker when we witnessed this two throw down earlier this year. Staying away from Queally’s guard will be imperative to avoid repeated elbows and strikes from the bottom we saw cost Pitbull the fight last time.
I would expect Pitbull to avoid head hunting when faced with the stand-up skills of Queally, he’ll be surrounded by thousand’s of screaming Irish fans, and to silence the crowd, a grappling game plan can certainly achieve that.
The available odds at Bookmakers Review opened with Pitbull as the considerable betting favorite because his counter striking and grappling advantage was seemingly too much for Queally in their first contest.
Queally has never been stopped during his professional career, and I don’t anticipate that trend being altered on Friday. However, I believe that Patricky Pitbull will collect his first-ever Bellator championship after coming so close to gold against the division best for the previous decade.
The available odds aren’t desirable, but we can find significant betting value in the over 4.5 rounds for the Bellator pick here.
