The opening NFL odds for this year’s Super Bowl was a Pick at most sportsbooks with a total of 48.5. In less than an hour after Kansas City won, the Chiefs were +2.5 with a 49.5. This might take a bit to figure out who to take for NFL picks and find out other important information.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Super Bowl LVII

Sunday, February 12, 2023 – 06:30 PM EST at State Farm Stadium

Coaching Matchup

One of the more interesting storylines of the Super Bowl is Kansas City coach Andy Reid going to face his old team for the whole enchilada. This will be the fourth time Reid has faced his old club and he is 3-0 SU and ATS against them, however, the stakes will be a wee bit higher.

Not that Reid was not smart in the City of Brotherly Love, but he was known for not winning big games there. That’s not the case in K.C. where he’s been an innovative head coach and done a remarkable job, with a front office that keeps bringing in talent.

Nick Sirianni seems to be the perfect coach for the Eagles and the people of Philadelphia, he’s confidently brash and unafraid and trusts his team to come through when he needs them to. There may be a slight edge to Reid, just not much.

Line Analysis

We actually thought the opening line was accurate at a Pick. Yet, given all the receiver and secondary injuries the Chiefs suffered against Cincinnati, bettors are naturally skeptical.

With two weeks off, it would seem all the players that went out of that for Kansas City will return. And the two weeks off will help Patrick Mahomes immensely to be ready. Don’t be surprised if this line moves backward sometime next week.

Just How Good is Philadelphia?

The Eagles had a great regular season at 14-3 and they had two dominating performances in NFC Playoffs. More than one person will ask this week, was Philly that good or the competition that poor?

The New York Giants had an amazing season and their limitations were finally exposed by Philadelphia. As you know, Brock Purdy was sensational, then the Philadelphia pass rush screwed up his elbow and San Francisco turned to its fourth quarterback and the game was over.

The Eagles played in a great division and were tested. Is that enough to prepare you for Kansas City? We do note that the prior four teams that won their two playoff games by 21 or more points won the Super Bowl.

Kansas City Returns to Super Bowl

This is the Chiefs' third Super Bowl in four years and the last time when they faced Tampa Bay, their offensive line was messed up, yet, the thinking was "they Have Mahomes, they’ll be fine." Kansas City will be facing a similar opponent who is versatile in running or passing the football and who is physically more imposing and they are a little banged up.

The early storyline is going to be Mahomes, Reid, Travis Kelce, and Kansas City's defense against arguably the best roster in the NFL, which doesn’t have a single player from the team that won the Super Bowl five years ago.

Quarterback Matchup

Patrick Mahomes showed why he is the best QB in football in the AFC title game, playing on an injured leg and still making amazing throws and more importantly, unbelievable decisions. For many looking at the NFL odds, he and Reid will be hard to bet against.

But just think, for two weeks Jalen Hurts and his teammates will be hearing about Mahomes compared to him. If NFL players like K.C. find motivation because everyone wasn’t fawning all over them and a mayor, a mayor from an opposing team was talking too much for their liking, how will Hurts and the Philly feel come game time?

Early Betting Take

BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review) is one about 40 percent of the sportsbooks with Philadelphia at -2, with a total of 49.5. The total looks spot on, however, the Eagles look like the more complete team and if they play as they have all season, they can win and cover the Super Bowl.
