Boston Celtics vs. Golden State Warriors

Monday, June 13, 2022 – 09:00 PM EDT at Chase Center

What Happened In Game 4?

After a 107-97 road win against the Boston Celtics, the Golden State Warriors tied the series at two and now head back home. The thought for most of us was that whichever team ended up winning Game 4, would also win the NBA Finals. Golden State got the job done and now have the home-court advantage again.

Can the Warriors win at Chase Center and retake the lead in the NBA Finals? Here are our picks and predictions for Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Celtics and Warriors.

The Expectation for Game 5

The Warriors had never lost two-straight games in the NBA Playoffs this season and kept that streak alive in Game 4. But the Celtics also have the same streak going for them and will look to keep their streak alive, on the road, against the Warriors in Game 5. Plus, we’ve already seen the Celtics knock off the Warriors on the road in the NBA Finals.

Celtics Need to Shoot Better

The Celtics will clearly need to shoot better than 40% from the field and with the Warriors heading back home. The expectation is that the Warriors will be just fine from deep in this game.

Could Boston pull off another upset on the road? It’s absolutely possible. But at this point, it’s hard to imagine. The Celtics played very selfishly in the second half, at home in Game 4, and that hurt their chances to win. Derrick White, for example, played 36 minutes and had one assist in the game as a guard.

The refs haven’t been calling many fouls. They’ve been ultimately allowing the game to flow, which has been good. Plenty of fouls have been missed and some calls have been bad, but overall, that’s how officiating is going to go.

Game Prediction

I like this game to play out a bit like Game 1, just in reverse. I think we see points in this game. An extra day of rest probably doesn’t hurt either. The Celtics shot 50.6% in that game while the Warriors shot 44.3% from the field.

Neither team destroyed the glass, but the Celtics shot better. Things will be in reverse. The Warriors will shoot at a high rate while the Celtics will be a bit behind. I’m the most confident that we’ll see a game with a high total.

The Pick

Therefore, I’ll take over 212 as my betting pick for Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Picking a winner is tough, but I think both offenses get back on track in this game to make it one of the better ones in the series.

Game 4 Recap

Despite shooting nearly 40% from downtown, the Boston Celtics were unable to defeat the Golden State Warriors, at home, in Game 4. The Celtics shot just 40% from the field and were dominated on the glass, losing the rebounding battle by 13.

This was due to Andrew Wiggins stepping up for the Warriors, as he earned 16 rebounds to go along with his 17 points. However, without Steph Curry, the Warriors wouldn’t be anywhere close to being in the position that they’re in.

Curry added another monstrous game, scoring 43 points on 14-for-26 from the field. He drained seven threes and also had 10 rebounds on the night against the Celtics.

Warriors' Success Depends on Steph Curry

The Warriors didn’t have a single-player over 20 points other than Curry in this game. That makes you wonder if the Warriors’ success is going to last. However, as long as Curry is playing at the level that he’s playing, the Warriors probably don’t need to worry.

The Celtics are clearly the deeper team, on the other hand. But in the final five minutes and 30 seconds, Boston went just 1-for-7 from downtown, hurting their chances at a comeback win against the Warriors.

Jayson Tatum Struggled for the Celtics

Jayson Tatum added 23 points along with 11 rebounds and six assists. But don’t get it twisted. Tatum struggled to finish around the rim and took some really bad takes, scoring just eight baskets on 23 shots. Nobody expected the Celtics to get outrebounded on the glass by the Warriors.

Then again, nobody expected the Celtics to stumble offensively so much inside the paint. The Warriors added six more points than the Celtics in the paint and shot 44% from the field. The timely rebounding was the main reason why the Warriors escaped Boston with a victory to tie things up at two.
