Chet Holmgren averaged a near double-double in college with just 27 minutes per game. He’s now one of the most sought prospects in the NBA Draft. Should you bet him to go first overall in this year’s NBA Draft? Keep reading.

The NBA Draft Lottery is set for May 17, one day ahead of the time I’m writing this article. If you’re looking to bet on the 2022 NBA Draft, I would suggest waiting until the NBA Draft Lottery is complete. Each team has its own needs and will draft based on those needs.

Sure, sometimes you might see a team draft the best player on the board, but ultimately, most teams are looking for guys that fit their system and guys that will grow in their franchise.

If you’re looking to bet on Chet Holmgren at first overall, understand it’s likely that he could drop out of the Top 3 depending on how the lottery plays out.

Who Is Chet Holmgren?

Chet Holmgren was a freshman center for the Gonzaga Bulldogs last season where he averaged a near double-double of 14.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. He shot 60.7% from the field and nailed 39% from downtown in about 26.9 minutes per game.

Holmgren is 7 feet tall but weighs under 200 pounds. That’s the one area that scouts are concerned about. But there’s no denying the potential with Holmgren. He’s like a more valuable Kristaps Porzingis or Jaren Jackson Jr. type of player.

Which NBA Teams Could Pick Holmgren?

Holmgren is easily the best center in the NBA Draft this season. But not every team needs a center. Some teams need scorers on the wing and others need elite guards who can handle the ball and get others involved.

The Oklahoma City Thunder would be an interesting landing spot for Holmgren. The Thunder is pretty much set at the guard position between Josh Giddey and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

But what if you add Chet Holmgren into the lineup with those two guards? Things get a bit interesting. Holmgren would be the perfect match with Giddey and those two could really be great secondary pieces to Gilgeous-Alexander. Personally, I love Holmgren on the Thunder.

But if not the Thunder, the Detroit Pistons would be the next best for Holmgren. The Pistons already have an elite guard in Cade Cunningham and have a young guard in Killian Hayes. If you pair Marvin Bagley III with Chet Holmgren, things would be looking pretty legitimate.

The Pistons could have a starting five of Cade Cunningham, Jerami Grant, Saddiq Bey, Marvin Bagley III, and Chet Holmgren. It’s not a playoff-contending team but could develop into one with so much young talent.

Chet Holmgren NBA Draft Odds

As per BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), here are the NBA Draft odds:

  • Chet Holmgren (+190).
  • Jabari Smith (+100).
  • Paolo Banchero (+275).

If the Thunder end up earning the first pick in the NBA Draft, I believe the Thunder will select Holmgren as the first overall selection.

The Pistons have more flexibility, but if the Pistons land that one spot, they’ll also consider looking at Holmgren knowing how many wings they already have on their roster.

Therefore, watch the lottery. If the Thunder are picking first, jump on the first overall selection wager for Chet Holmgren. That’s where I feel he’ll land regardless of the draft order.

NBA Draft Lottery Final Thoughts

Holmgren to go to the Thunder would be the best bet. It’s not up just yet, but I’d rather take that than worry about him being drafted first overall.

If the Thunder are selecting first, there’s a very good chance that Holmgren ends up being drafted first overall.

If the Pistons are drafting first, there’s also a chance. But other than that, all other teams could be looking at other players on the board that fits their team better.
