Nets vs. Heat NBA Odds, Preview and Prediction (Archive)

Originally published on February 12, 2022

The Brooklyn Nets haven’t won a game in a very long time. Will Brooklyn come close to defeating the best Eastern Conference team in the NBA in the Miami Heat? Below, we’ll take a look at the NBA odds and how you should be wagering over today. Let’s begin.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Miami Heat

Saturday, February 12, 2022 – 8:00 PM EST at FTX Arena

The Miami Heat is currently 36-20 and has the best record in the Eastern Conference. Nobody saw this coming at the start of the year, but during the COVID Bubble Year, the Miami Heat proved how great of a team they could be.

Now they’ll take on a Nets team that just traded away James Harden to bring in Ben Simmons and a couple of other key pieces like Seth Curry and Andre Drummond along with draft NBA picks. I would assume that outside of Simmons, those two other guys will be playing for the Nets in tonight’s game.

The Nets will also have Kyrie Irving, with Brooklyn playing on the road in this one. Irving has been special when able to play, earning 23.8 points per game this season. The Nets offense could be really good, as they’re currently averaging 113 points per 100 possessions this season.

The Nets are above average on the offensive end, but again, don’t have any other star pieces other than Kyrie Irving right now. The Miami Heat, on the other hand, have limited opponents to 108 points per 100 possessions while also earning 16 percent of turnovers. The Heat also limit offensive rebounds to 25.1 percent but have a hard time keeping teams off the foul line.

On the other hand, the Nets have struggled immensely on the defensive end. Brooklyn is allowing teams to score 113 points per 100 possessions while only earning 12.9% turnovers. The Nets also limit the opposition to 27.8 percent of offensive rebounds, which is in the bottom half of the league.

Meanwhile, the Heat are scoring 113.5 points per 100 possessions while earning an effective field goal percentage of 54.4 percent. The Heat should have their way on the offensive glass and will likely be able to limit turnovers a little more than their rate of 15.3 percent turnovers this season.

Right now, the Nets can’t catch a break and haven’t won a game in a couple of weeks. Kevin Durant has no timetable on his return and Ben Simmons won’t be on the court for another couple of weeks.

You might see him by the All-Star break if we’re being honest. Meanwhile, the Heat are on a four-game winning streak and have been on the road in the last two weeks, connecting on a win after win.

Prediction

The Heat is a massive favorite with 11 points. I think that’s too many points, at least knowing Irving will anchor this offense. There might be extra motivation on this Nets team without James Harden. Either way, what we do know is that offense will be a major factor in this game.

The Heat scored 104 or more points in each of their last five games while the Nets continue to play in high-scoring games. For our best bets, grab the over 220 in this one.
