Andrei Arlovski vs. Jake Collier

UFC Heavyweight Co-Main Event Bout

Saturday, April 30, 2022 – 09:05 PM EDT at UFC Apex

Jake Collier

Returning to action following a slick round-one rear-naked choke submission victory over Chase Sherman earlier this year, Jake "The Prototype" Collier will step into the octagon this Saturday evening versus an MMA legend in Andrei Arlovski.

Collier began his mixed martial arts tenure by default, initially looking for a path to lose weight. Ironically, the former middleweight has packed the pounds back on during the latter stage of his career as he's now competing in the UFC's heavyweight division with a 2-2 record at this weight class.

I don't envision a St. Louis, Missouri-born fighter entangling himself inside the top-10 heavyweights of the world, but a win over Arlovski would undoubtedly boost his current UFC stock.

Andrei Arlovski

Behind a wealth of MMA experience, former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei "The Pitbull" Arlovski will enter the UFC octagon for an impressive 33rd time this weekend, providing some of the most extensive experience the current roster has on offer.

Aged 43-years-old, Arlovski is impressively riding a 3-fight win streak, and since 2020 his record stands at 5-1. If this isn't proof there's still some fight left in the old dog, I don't know what is.

There isn't much left to prove on behalf of Arlovski's fight career as he's built a legacy that stems back to 1999 when he first made his professional MMA debut. With that said, you can never count out the man who possesses more experience than any other fighter on the roster.

Breakdown and Analysis

Collier's Fight Style and How Can Collier Defeat Arlovski?

For a 260lb heavyweight, Collier has proved on more than one occasion that he can still move on pace with the middleweight fighters he used to dance with.

Collier has a well-rounded skill set, but it's the volume striking of Collier that I believe can win him this contest. And the good news is Arlovski should be willing to stand and exchange with him for all three rounds.

Arlovski's Fight Style and How Can Arlovski Defeat Collier?

Arlovski was known for his fight-ending ability back in the day, but those times have passed. Nowadays, it's movement and volume striking that the former champ relies on, and it's fared well for him in recent years.

A grappling game plan could be the legend's best hope of securing a W, simply because I don't believe he can match the significant striking output of his opponent despite it working for him in the past.

Betting Prediction and UFC Vegas 53 Odds

The available betting odds at Bookmakers Review are close, and this is why I have to side with the underdog in Jake Collier.

I anticipate this bout to become a war of nutrition, and the fighter who lands the higher output should walk away as the victor. Both men have similar striking styles, but Collier has the higher output per fight, and that's what makes his underdog price tag the tempting side to bet on.
