A few weeks ago while covering UFC 271 for Combat Culture, my co-host and I were trying to figure out who Bobby Green should face next after his tremendous win Nasrat Haqparast, and while one of our viewers called out a fight against Islam Makachev, we didn’t think it would be two weeks later that the two would square off. But… here we are. Let’s break down the UFC odds so that we can keep cashing out! Let’s go.
Catchweight Bout
Saturday, February 26, 2022 – 10:05 PM EST at UFC Apex
While Green had a dominating performance against Haqparast, with two weeks of preparation and Makhachev being a monster of a human who only seeks pain, violence, and possibly a nice waffle, it would be an Andy Ruiz level upset if Green pulls off the win on Saturday night inside the baby cage.
BetOnline agrees with this assessment as they have Makhachev listed as a -900 favorite whereas Green is set as a +550 underdog for the main event of a UFC Vegas 49 card.
After nothing, he was only agreeing to fight at a catchweight of 160 pounds, Green explained why he and not one of the other top lightweights took the short notice fight.

“All those motherf***ers [top-10 ranked lightweights] got the call first. I guarantee you. All those guys are p***ies. They want to wait and pick their terms,” said Green to Ariel Helwani (via Bloody Elbow). “All those guys are playing a weird game and holding their cards in and they wait for the right time to pull out their ace. No. Sometimes you gotta jump on it and take it the way it is and now I’m jumping over all you guys. Because why? You’re too p***y to take the opportunity.”
With that being said, Makhachev is the lock on this card, despite Green being the self-proclaimed ballsiest man in the lightweight division, it’s really hard to bet against Makhachev after the last 12 months where he’s fought three times and gotten submission wins each time.
And while that is the lock on the card, I can’t justify having my readers bet a boatload of money to make a minimal return on this fight. It wouldn’t be fair to any of you, my corporate overlords at Bookmakers Review, or the Sleep Paralysis Demon who gives me these UFC picks when I’m frozen in bed at 3:00 a.m.

If we look at both of the fighters heading into this fight, Makhachev is a submission machine as mentioned before… but, Green has not been tapped since 2009, which feels like a lifetime ago.
That does not mean Makhachev can’t sink his hooks in and get the win, as I’d put Green a hair lower than Dan Hooker in the lightweight division rankings.
Your best bet for this fight is hedging a Makhachev on points pick (+300), with a Makhachev by submission pick -110. And if Bobby Green wins this fight, I will openly advocate for him to get a lightweight title shot cause at that point, he’s the baddest human being walking the earth inside the UFC.
