UFC Hot Prospect: Manon “The Beast” Fiorot (7-1-0)

As the UFC’s flyweight queen, Valentina Shevchenko, continues to wipe out the top-ten ranked fighters within her division. Matchmakers for the company are slowly attempting to build the future contenders of this weight class. It won’t be a simple task to find a match for Shevchenko, but if one female prospect has the striking skills to contend with “The Bullet”, it could be the French standout Manon Fiorot.

Born and raised in Nice, France, the 31-year-old martial artist stems from Karate and Muay Thai disciplines. Fiorot is a multi-time national champion of Muay Thai and Karate in France. Before finding a keen interest in mixed martial arts, she amassed a 12-0 undefeated professional record in Muay Thai.

Fiorot was a late bloomer to the world of MMA, starting her amateur career at the IMMAF World Championships in 2016 and 2017. Despite losing in the tournament in 2016, she gained invaluable experience within MMA to return in 2017 and win the amateur IMMAF championship. This accomplishment took her striking prowess straight into professional competition.

When making her professional debut for the Cage Warriors promotion in 2018, a catchweight bout at 138lbs started the French-born fighters’ pro career in an unfavorable split-decision loss. However, when returning to the 125lb division, she’s been unstoppable ever since.

Now boasting a 7-1 professional record with six fights ending via TKO/KO, it’s hard to argue that Fiorot has even lost a single round. Her Muay Thai striking has transitioned beautifully into the MMA cage, evident through her vicious technical knockout and knockout record.

Fiorot is relatively new to MMA, but a lifelong journey throughout multiple martial arts disciplines makes up for the cage experience she doesn’t own. Now 2-0 in the UFC with two stoppages, Fiorot will take on the skilled grappling of Mayra Bueno Silva in attempts to climb her way into the top 20 UFC women’s flyweight rankings.

UFC in Vegas 40: Manon Fiorot Fighter Analysis

You’ll instantly recognize Fiorots’ Karate background with her sometimes wide stance and variety of kicks. When feeling her opponents out, she’ll lean towards a sidekick to the solar plexus when finding the range between herself and the opposition.

Her kicking output can often cause her opponents to lose sight of her hands, her striking intelligence is nothing short of elite, and she’ll rarely be found wasting energy as every attack is precise. Fiorot selects her shots behind a slick choice of feints; with great footwork and quick speed, she could undoubtedly reach the top fifteen of the division in no time.

Fiorot’s striking ability can often overshadow any other skill set. Still, she has also proven her ability to grapple, and if her foes fail to drop from strikes, she can be found pouncing on a takedown to finish the fight via ground and pound.

Her grappling offense isn’t technical by any means, and her submission threat is minimal. Still, I can envision grappling-based fighters struggling to outsee their game plans when faced with her vicious and varied onslaught.

UFC in Vegas 40: Fiorot vs. Silva Betting Pick

This weekend’s UFC in Vegas 40 main card will put Manon Fiorot against Mayra Bueno Silva, a 30-year-old Brazilian native who owns a 2-1 UFC record.

The oddsmakers favor the French star to continue her reign of dominance, with an opening line of -220; you can expect the betting public to juice this when getting closer to fight night.

Mayra Bueno Silva isn’t going to have any answers for Fiorot’s striking offense. And similarly, to last week’s UFC in Vegas 39 main event where the striker in Rodriguez outclassed the Grappler in Dern, I’m favoring the striker with a sustainable grappling defense to unleash a barrage of kicks and punches to claim the victory.
