Sunday, October 31, 2021 – 04:05 PM EDT at SoFi Stadium
The Patriots had a field day with the Jets in week 7 as they dominated them at home, 54-13.
Mac Jones completed 24 out of 36 passes for 307 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brandon Bolden received 6 catches for 79 yards and 1 touchdown. Damien Harris rushed on 14 carries for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns.
New England finished the night with 551 total yards with 7.4 yards per play, and allowed 299 total yards for 4.9 yards per play against them. They gained a total of 148 rushing yards and held the Jets to just 62 rushing yards.
The Chargers are coming off of a bye week. In week 6, LA was dominated on the road 34-6 against the Ravens.
In that matchup, Justin Herbert completed 22 out of 39 passes for 195 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. Herbert also led the rush with 2 carries for 12 yards. Keenan Allen received 5 catches for 50 yards.
Los Angeles ended up with 208 total yards and 3.9 yards per play, and allowed 327 total yards and 4.8 yards per play against them. LA also only gained 26 total rushing yards and allowed 187 against them. They did pass for 182 yards and allowed 140 passing yards from the Ravens.
The current NFL Odds at your top sportsbooks are: New England +5.5-109 and Los Angeles -5.5-101 via Pinnacle (Visit our Pinnacle Review).
The Chargers are going to be fully rested for the Patriots this Sunday, and I definitely don’t see a blowout happening between these two.
In LA’s meeting against Baltimore, their passing yards were up there but they simply could not finish a drive and score. Their rush was put to a major halt, and I can see the Chargers having issues on the ground against the Pats.
In the Patriots last three games, it appears they have found more of their groove. They defeated the Texans on the road 25-22, they almost beat Dallas 35-29 in OT, and then their domination over the Jets.
Herbert will put the Patriots secondary to test, but they will find it difficult to run the ball. Jones may have issues with the Chargers secondary, but their rushing unit should be able to run through that rusty defense.
This is a case where I see the Chargers winning at home, but the Patriots covering the spread. New England is 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 meetings in LA, so grab the points with the road dog.
