Their fast start to the season has the Colorado Rockies hoping to make the move to the top tier of the National League West, where there is a clear delineation between the haves and have-nots.
Monday’s opening game of the three-game showdown at San Francisco was an indication that Colorado may have some distance to travel before moving out of the West doldrums.
Let’s see what the MLB odds for this matchup tell us!
Tuesday, May 10, 2022 – 09:45 PM EDT at Oracle Park
The Rockies lost to the Giants, 8-5, continuing a pair of troubling streaks. Colorado has now lost on the road for the seventh time in the last eight games.
The Rockies were swept in four games in Philadelphia last month and dropped two of three to the last-place Diamondbacks in Arizona over the weekend.

The Rockies also dropped their first matchup with the Giants this season, carrying over last year’s futility.
Colorado has now lost its last eight to San Francisco and has won just four of its last 20 games against the Giants.
The Rockies were 74-87 last year, which put them in fourth place in the NL West, more than 30 games off the pace.
Colorado was a woeful 20-61 on the road and 22-63 against teams with a winning record, many of them in its division.
The Rockies’ run differential of -214 was third-worst in all of baseball.
Despite continuing their struggles against the Giants for at least one game, the Rockies are confident that the team is not headed back to the problems of 2021.

“We’re in a little spurt here where we’re not getting the results we want,” leadoff hitter Connor Joe said.
“But it’s not talked about as much. In the clubhouse, it’s not a problem. We’re not worried. It’s not a concern. No one’s pressing. It’s very different from last year.”
The Rockies will still be without Kris Bryant, a Giant last season. The slugger went on the injured list last week with an injured back.
He took a cortisone shot, which appears to have helped, but it won’t get him back in the lineup for this series, as he headed back to Colorado and will reportedly miss the rest of the road trip.
Colorado will start right-hander Antonio Senzatela, who is 2-1, 3.75 on the year.
The Giants won their third straight game and appear to have turned things back around after last week’s five-game losing streak.
San Francisco got some good news on the injury front. Brandon Belt, who left Saturday’s game with neck stiffness, missed his second straight game after he was scratched from the lineup.

Belt and manager Gabe Kapler both said that this is something he goes through from time to time each year, and Kapler said Belt would likely be back for Tuesday’s game.
The Giants also might be getting back Evan Longoria very soon. He hasn’t played yet this year after having surgery at the end of March to reattach a ligament in his finger.
The Giants will start a lefthander against the Rockies for the second straight night, following Carlos Rodon’s Monday gem with Alex Wood, who is 2-2 on the year with a 4.38 ERA.
The Giants aren’t quite as heavy a favorite as they were on Monday. Paying the steep price paid off in that game, and it likely will again in Tuesday’s rematch.
