The Boston Red Sox can’t be happy with their first 17 games of the season. Boston is currently 7-10 on the year and just dropped another game last night.
Boston continues to blow leads late and has struggled to find much offense to start the year. Granted, J.D. Martinez had been out for a little bit but overall, the Red Sox are flat-out struggling. Boston will look to get one back against the Blue Jays in the second game of a four-game series. However, the pitching matchup isn’t favorable for the Red Sox.
The Toronto Blue Jays will look to knock Nick Pivetta out for his second straight start after he allowed five runs in four innings last week. Can the Blue Jays continue to dominate the Red Sox? We have you covered from every angle of this MLB matchup to help you make the right baseball pick. Let’s dig in.
Tuesday, April 26, 2022 – 07:07 PM EDT at Rogers Centre
The Red Sox will send out Nick Pivetta, who is already 0-3 with a 10.03 ERA to start the season. Pivetta, dating back to last year, has a 4.59 xFIP with 10.2% walks. He’s very capable of high strikeouts but continues to let the long ball get the best of him, against both sides of the plate.
The Blue Jays don’t have the most insane offense against righties dating back to last season. However, Toronto does have a couple of massive sluggers including George Springer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who have both smashed righties dating back to last season. Bo Bichette, Zack Collins, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. along with Matt Chapman are all starting to heat up though.
On the other hand, Kevin Gausman will take the hill for the Blue Jays. He’s been much better with a 2.89 ERA to start the season. Dating back to last year, Gausman has a 3.37 xFIP with 29.6% strikeouts and 6.2% walks.

The Red Sox have had success against righties dating back to last season but so far this year, the offense has been a bit quieter. Still, the projected lineup has a .196 ISO and could ultimately do some damage against Gausman. Of course, Gausman allowed one run on seven hits in eight innings of work on the road against Boston last time out.
Meanwhile, Pivetta allowed five runs on seven hits in four innings of work in his last start against the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays waited until later in the game yesterday to heat up. But I think the Blue Jays will have some momentum going into this game against Pivetta. I know it can’t really get worse for Pivetta but even if Pivetta allows three runs in five innings, that would win a Blue Jays team total bet in the first five innings.

That’s the route I’m going to take for this game. I like the Blue Jays Over 2.5 F5 TT at +100 as shown on the MLB odds board. Pivetta has a 10.03 ERA in three starts. I’ll fade him every chance I can get.
