Latest Rams vs. Bengals Super Bowl LVI Injury Updates: Will C.J. Uzomah Play on Sunday (Archive)

Originally published on February 13, 2022

Super Bowl LVI is just around the corner and you can feel the excitement in the air but the Bengals still don’t know if tight end C.J. Uzomah will suit up on Sunday. Uzomah sprained his MCL in the AFC Championship game against the Chiefs but he is determined to play against the Rams. At press time, Uzomah’s status is still up in the air and will depend on tomorrow’s practice.

Uzomah was listed as a limited participant on Thursday and Friday, which is a good sign for his chances of playing on Super Bowl LVI. The 29-year-old tight end is a security blanket for Joe Burrow and a vital blocker. If Uzomah is out, the workload will fall to backup tight end Drew Sample, who is capable but the Bengals would obviously prefer to have their starter. C.J. Uzomah swore that he will be ready for the biggest game of his career. While the Bengals have hope that Uzomah can play, the Rams will be without their starting tight end.

Tyler Higbee Out for Super Bowl LVI

An MCL sprain will force Rams tight end Tyler Higbee to miss Super Bowl LVI. Higbee suffered the injury in the 2022 NFC Championship game against the 49ers. The Rams hoped Higbee would be able to play but today he was placed on injured reserve. Missing the Super Bowl is devastating for any player to experience and even more so when they won’t play because they got hurt just one game before it.

With Tyler Higbee out, Matthew Stafford will miss a valuable target he’s had all season. Backup tight end Kendall Blanton will now receive most of the snaps at tight end on Sunday. Higbee caught 61 passes for 560 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games this season. He had nine catches for 115 yards and no touchdowns in three playoff games.

The Rams activated Darrell Henderson, who has been out with a knee injury since Week 16. Henderson, who was expected to miss three to five weeks, ran for 688 yards and five touchdowns on 149 carries in 12 games, leading Rams running backs with 4.6 yards per carry. LA opened as a -4 favorite at Everygame (visit our Everygame Review) but quickly jumped to a -4.5 favorite. There’s been a lot of action on the Bengals since, which caused them to go back down to -4.
