Dodgers vs. Twins MLB Odds, Preview and Pick (Archive)

Originally published on April 12, 2022

Clear favorites on the MLB futures to win it all, the Los Angeles Dodgers play their first interleague series of the season when they open a quick 2-game set against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Minnesota Twins

Tuesday, April 12, 2022 – 07:40 PM EDT at Target Field

Coming off a somewhat lackluster showing in the Mile High City, the Los Angeles Dodgers head to the Twin Cities for an interleague showdown with the Minnesota Twins. It’s the first of two series between the clubs in 2022, and the only NL club Minnesota will face until mid-June.

Of course, every interleague matchup for the Dodgers is a potential World Series preview. Los Angeles is a +250 choice to win the National League at BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), and chalked at -240 to win the NL West. We won’t hold our breath for Minnesota to reach the Fall Classic. At +450, the Twins are picked as the runner-up behind the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central but a distant ninth at +1800 in the American League.

Hurlers Making Debuts With New Clubs

We get to see a couple of hurlers not only making their season debuts on Tuesday but also their team debuts as the Dodgers send Andrew Heaney to the mound at Target Field against Minnesota’s Chris Archer. Los Angeles is favored around -135 at most top-rated sportsbooks with a 9½-run total that leans to the ‘under’ at many shops.

Los Angeles had Monday off after a 3-game set in Denver this weekend. The Dodgers won the season opener behind a big 5-run inning, and Colorado took the final two games of the set. Dave Roberts watched his stacked lineup score 11 runs in the series and only six after the big 4th-inning of the season opener.

Knee-jerk reactionists came away from LA’s opening series with something of a ‘sky is falling attitude. The Dodgers poked just one home run in the thin air of Coors Field, and newcomer Freddie Freeman mustered just two singles in 12 at-bats. It was their first series loss in Colorado since August 2018.

Heaney will be looking to put a pretty rough Spring Training behind him when he climbs the hill Tuesday evening at Target Field. The southpaw made just two official appearances totaling 5.1 innings and surrendered 10 runs on 12 hits. Heaney split time with the Angels and Yankees a year ago and recorded a 5.83 ERA.

One of his few good games came against the Twins at Target Field in July, Heaney getting the win with seven innings of 2-run baseball as a small underdog at online betting sites.

Twins Off Series Split With M’s

Minnesota just hosted a 4-game set against Seattle over the weekend, and managed to split with the Mariners after dropping the first two games. The Twins earned the split on Monday with a 4-0 win behind another new arm, Dylan Bundy, and they clubbed an MLB-leading nine homers to begin the season, three of those off Byron Buxton’s sizzling stick.

Archer signed with the Twins late in Spring Training and managed just one appearance before the club broke camp in Fort Myers. He was approaching the mid-90s with his fastball in that outing, but realistically can’t be counted on for more than 3-4 innings and 60 pitches on Tuesday. Archer last faced the Dodgers in 2019 when he was with the Pirates, and lost both games (9 IP, 10 ER) as an underdog on the baseball odds

Dodgers Have Won Last 6 Meetings

Los Angeles has the 9-6 advantage in the five regular season interleague series between the Dodgers and Twins. The two sides also met in the 1965 World Series that went the full seven games before LA claimed the title. It has been five years since the two clubs collided, and the Dodgers swept that 3-game set in Los Angeles where the home team was drawing some mighty thick chalk lines at top sportsbooks.

Their last games in Minnesota came in 2014, and the Dodgers also brought their brooms along for that series. A rainout in the series opener forced the Twins and Dodgers to end the set with a doubleheader, and two of the three games sailed past the totals. Minnesota will return the visit when the Twins travel to Dodger Stadium in August.

There is a 70% chance of rain come the early evening in Minneapolis, and the risk increases as the night progresses. If the rain holds off, there’s also a 10-12 mph breeze from the east in from center). I’m running with free baseball picks on the under and the underdog.
