Villarreal’s season is almost done as they suffered a 2-0 loss at Anfield and never looked like scoring, then they went on to lose in La Liga at the weekend to Deportivo Alves, meaning they are now 4 points adrift of a Europa League spot and a battle for the Conference league between themselves and Atletico Bilbao is all they have left to play for. Yes, they can still make the top 5th but it seems unlikely.
They would become just the second team in Champions League history to overturn a 2 goal deficit from the first leg in the semi-finals of this competition. The only team to do so was Liverpool against Barcelona in 2019.
