We really don’t want to put Villarreal down here, and it was absolutely amazing what they did to Bayern Munich, but let’s be real; that is/was one of the worst Munich teams of the past decade (albeit they still won the league), and Juventus are no great shakes either this season. Villarreal is only barely making European football right now in Spain, sitting in 7th, which is only enough for a Conference League spot next season.

Liverpool is a different animal altogether and without a doubt the best team in European football right now. The fact they have been to 2 finals, 1 quarter-final, and 1 semi-final in the previous four years should tell us all we need to know about the strength of this Liverpool team in recent times. Interestingly, the years they were knocked out in the semi and quarterfinals were both respectively to Real and Atletico Madrid.
We think Villarreal will give Liverpool a strong challenge over both legs, especially on home soil. Ultimately, the quality of Jurgen Klopp’s players will find enough to get past the Yellow Submarines and advance to their 3rd Champions League final in 5 years.
