Bet This NHL Parlay at (+228) on Tuesday (Archive)

In the NHL, the home team has one big advantage: The last line change after a stoppage of play. That’s partly why we like three home teams for a three-way parlay pick for Tuesday with odds from BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review).

New York Rangers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

Tuesday, March 29, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at PPG Paints Arena

This game is huge in the Metropolitan Division because the Penguins (90 points) and Rangers (89 points) are right on the tail of first-place Carolina. The Hurricanes probably win the division and are favored to do so at BMR’s top-rated books, but the second-place team would get home-ice advantage in Round 1 against the third-place club. The Rangers, for example, are a stellar 22-6-3 at home but 20-13-2 away.

Home/road splits are partly why I will back Pittsburgh here because New York netminder Igor Shesterkin might be the best in the NHL when he’s at Madison Square Garden (1.88 GAA) but has a 2.36 road GAA. Still good but a lot higher. New York has one major injury concern with center Ryan Strome, who has 15 goals and 30 assists with a plus-5 rating. He left Sunday’s 5-4 OT win over Buffalo with an injury and is questionable.

Pittsburgh scored an NHL season-high 11 goals at home on Sunday in an obliteration of the Detroit Red Wings. Evgeni Malkin scored three goals to boost his career hat-trick total to 13 in Pittsburgh’s first 11-goal game since Nov. 16, 1993, vs. the Flyers. Malkin's hat trick gave him 16 goals in 30 games since returning from offseason knee surgery.

Tristan Jarry should be in net Tuesday for the Pens. In nine March games, he’s 7-2 with a 2.23 GAA and won his lone start this year vs. the Rangers on Feb. 26, 1-0. New York has lost five straight games in Pittsburgh.

Ottawa Senators vs. Nashville Predators

Tuesday, March 29, 2022 – 08:00 PM EDT at Bridgestone Arena

Ottawa is playing out the string on yet another terrible season, while Nashville is battling for playoff positioning in the Central Division – the Predators currently sit third but could get as high as second … or miss the postseason entirely. So, yeah, we like the team with motivation.

This is the first time these clubs have played since the 2019-20 season because of the unique realignment last season during the pandemic. They were supposed to play on Nov. 18 in Ottawa, but that was postponed due to COVID – they will turn around and play in Ottawa now on April 7.

The Sens are without two of their better players in goaltender Matt Murray and defenseman Thomas Chabot, both on injured reserve. Should be Anton Forsberg in net. He’s 4-5-1 this month with a 2.58 GAA.

Nashville is a bit maddening at times because it can look like a Cup contender for weeks and then look terrible other times. The Preds did end a two-game slide Sunday with a 5-4 win over Philadelphia.

Defenseman and Norris Trophy candidate Roman Josi reached the 80-point mark in his 64th game of the season Sunday, becoming the fifth different defenseman in NHL history to hit the mark that quickly and the first since Al MacInnis 31 years ago. Josi’s streak of 13 straight games with at least one point is a career-high. Juuse Saros is 20-10-0 with a 2.20 GAA at home.

Ottawa has lost six straight trips to Nashville.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Minnesota Wild

Tuesday, March 29, 2022 – 08:00 PM EDT at Xcel Energy Center

Like Senators-Predators above, this is one team playing out a lousy season in Philadelphia and one trying to improve its playoff seeding in Minnesota.

The Flyers lost at home to the Wild on March 3, 5-4. Matt Boldy tied it 4-4 at 12:16 of the third and 25 seconds later Jonas Brodin scored the eventual winner. Cam Talbot made 26 saves in the win and Carter Hart finished with 33 saves in the loss.

Philadelphia enters on a two-game skid and has the second-worst goal differential in the East at minus-62. The Flyers blew a 2-0 lead after one period in a 5-4 loss in Nashville on Sunday. It was Martin Jones in net for that one and should be Hart here. He is terrible on the road, going 3-10-3 with a 3.32 GAA.

Minnesota won its sixth straight game Sunday, 3-2 in overtime over the excellent Colorado Avalanche. It marked the seventh time this season the Wild have had a game decided in overtime. Minnesota is the first team in the NHL to rack up a trio of six-game winning streaks this season, and it's the first time in franchise history the Wild has done so.

It was Talbot in net Sunday, but should be trade acquisition Marc-Andre Fleury here. His Wild debut was Saturday vs. Columbus, a 3-2 OT win. Defenseman Alex Goligoski (28 points) is questionable after sitting Sunday.

Minnesota is 39-12 on the NHL odds in its past 51 as a home favorite.
