Best NBA Playoffs Player Props to Consider for April 21 (Archive)

Originally published on April 21, 2022

The NBA playoffs feature a trio of Game 3s this Thursday evening. Here is a few NBA prop picks from Bovada, a top-rated sportsbook, that should bring you the best value for each game.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

Thursday, April 21, 2022 – 07:30 PM EDT at Target Center

The Memphis Grizzlies used balanced scoring – three different bench players scored 13 points – to even the series with the Timberwolves on Tuesday.

Minnesota's starters were cold and ineffective as the Timberwolves shot 39.5% from the field. But one of Minnesota’s big three is worth looking at as he returns home for Game 3.

D'Angelo Russell Prop Analysis

Through two games in this series, D'Angelo Russell has really struggled to find his shot for the Timberwolves. He is 5-of-22 from the field, 3-for-10 from three, and he has 21 points in two games. Russell has only scored 20 points twice in his last 18 games.

But what makes the playoff performance surprising is that Memphis was a defense that Russell destroyed in four meetings in the regular season. Russell shot 55.8% against the Timberwolves in the regular season, his highest against any team this year.

He scored 28, 29, 30, and a season-high 37 points against Memphis. In fact, four of Russell’s eight games with 28-plus points this season were against the Grizzlies. Center Karl-Anthony Towns has his own history of big-game struggles to overcome.

The 20-year-old Anthony Edwards can give you anywhere from five points to 40 on any given night. Russell needs to find his shot at home and be the complete point guard the Timberwolves need to battle with Ja Morant in this series. I like him to hit his over in points in this one.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Utah Jazz

Thursday, April 21, 2022 – 09:00 PM EDT at Vivint Arena

Without Luka Doncic (calf) again, the Dallas Mavericks got a crucial home split with the Jazz thanks to making 22 three-point field goals.

Jalen Brunson had a career day with 41 points. But with Doncic questionable to play on Thursday night, let’s stick with something more reliable: Utah’s top player taking a lot of shots.

Donovan Mitchell Prop Analysis

Donovan Mitchell has struggled from three in this series so far, hitting 5-of-16 from deep. But that has not stopped him from getting to 32 and 34 points.

In 35 career playoff games, Mitchell has scored at least 30 points 18 times. He’s done it nine times in 15 home playoff games. Mitchell has hit 30 points four times in six meetings with the Mavericks this season.

It’s also true that Mitchell scored a season-low 12 points against Dallas on March 27, not even a whole month ago. But the Mavericks are likely to cool down from three in this game, and Doncic is still a question mark to play.

The Jazz may not be a trustworthy team, but Mitchell is a legit scoring star. Mitchell has scored at least 30 points in nine of his last 10 playoff games. I like him to add another to his resume in this game by hitting his over in points.

Golden State Warriors vs. Denver Nuggets

Thursday, April 21, 2022 – 10:00 PM EDT at Ball Arena

The Golden State Warriors have taken a dominant 2-0 lead over the Denver Nuggets by getting incredible shooting from their guards while Denver has struggled to build anything around Nikola Jokic.

With a 3-0 hole staring down the Nuggets at home, this is the chance to bank on one of those role players doing his job.

Monte Morris Prop Analysis

Monte Morris has shot better (9-of-17) in this series than forwarding Aaron Gordon, who has yet to crack 10 points in five games against the Warriors this season. Morris scored 10 points in Game 1 and had 12 points in Game 2 despite only playing 25 minutes.

In two home games against the Warriors in March, Morris scored 18 and 19 points. He has scored at least 12 points in 41 out of 77 games this season (53.2%). With the Nuggets still a 2-point underdog in this game, it is worth noting that the over is 5-2 in games where the Nuggets are a home underdog.

So, even if the Warriors are still hot from three, hopefully, the Nuggets can put up more of a fight this time and score. With the Warriors holding Jokic under all of his season averages in this series, let’s go with Morris to step up and provide some scoring help by hitting his over in points.
