Best NBA Player Prop Bets Today (March 28) (Archive)

Originally published on March 28, 2022

Monday is usually fairly slow around the NBA, but not tonight as there are nine games on the slate. Here are four NBA picks for the night.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Houston Rockets

Monday, March 28, 2022 – 08:00 PM EDT at Toyota Center

Dejounte Murray

This is an absolute garbage game that means nothing in the grand scheme of things but, hey, money all spends the same! Top-rated sportsbooks don’t expect much defense to be played here with a massive total of 235, highest on the board, and I tend to agree. Houston ranks last in defensive efficiency but fourth in pace. The Spurs rank sixth in pace.

San Antonio’s Dejounte Murray, a first-time All-Star, averages 20.8 points, 9.3 assists, and 8.3 rebounds on the season, so we’ll need him to go a bit over his averages to win this wager. I think he will. Murray is the first player in Spurs history to post a single season with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 500 assists and is second in the league with 13 triple-doubles.

In three games against Houston this season, Murray averages 23.3 points, 10.7 assists, and 7.3 rebounds. Murray might have to play a few more minutes than normal because the Spurs might be without Devin Vassell and Lonnie Walker due to injury. If this game were in San Antonio, I’d probably go under this total simply as the Spurs likely would win that in a rout.

I don’t think they win this one in blowout fashion and actually wouldn’t be shocked if Houston pulled the upset.

Sacramento Kings vs. Miami Heat

Monday, March 28, 2022 – 07:30 PM EDT at FTX Arena

Davion Mitchell

We hit on a similar Davion Mitchell prop last week and the rookie cashed for us. Let’s go back to the well again as Mitchell has been tearing it up of late as the Kings’ No. 1 offensive option with both De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis out injured – neither will play tonight, either.

In Saturday’s win at Orlando, Mitchell played 45 minutes and had 22 points – his third straight game with at least 22, and he has had at least seven assists in each of those, too, so I’m surprised this total is so low. Mitchell has had recorded three games this season with 25 or more points and at least five assists.

He joins Toronto’s Scottie Barnes and Detroit’s Cade Cunningham as the only rookies who have these marks. Mitchell has averaged 41.0 minutes as the team’s starting point guard over the past four games, operating as the primary ballhandler, distributor, and scorer.

“He is really growing,” interim Kings coach Alvin Gentry said. “And I have to say that what I’m asking him to do right now is really, really tough. He played 45 minutes (Saturday), and the way he plays, and the intensity he plays with, it’s almost unfair, really, but he would play the whole 48 if I wanted him to.”

When Miami lost 115-113 in Sacramento on Jan. 2, Mitchell was limited to just 19 points off the bench because the Kings had Fox, Tyrese Haliburton, and Buddy Hield back then. Those latter two have since been traded to Indiana.

Atlanta Hawks vs. Indiana Pacers

Monday, March 28, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at Gainbridge Fieldhouse

Trae Young

This is another largely meaningless game and Indiana is listing about half its roster as questionable due to injury. Atlanta is without John Collins for sure and perhaps Bogdan Bogdanovic and Danilo Gallinari, so that means more shots for Trae Young.

Young has made more than a trio of three-pointers in four of his past seven games and has hit a total of 13 against the Pacers in his past two against them. Over their past 10 games, Indiana ranks 26th in opponent three-point shooting percentage.

In addition, Young scored 30-or-more points in five straight games against the Pacers, averaging 35.6 ppg. In that span, he’s shooting 54.2 percent from the field, 47.7 percent from deep, and 97.6 percent from the free-throw line. Young is the first Hawks player since Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins in 1993 to score 30-or-more points against a single opponent in five straight games.
