Who on the list other than Tupac arguably was not solidly on the downside of their career at the time they passed ?
Not like any of them were members of the 27 club who departed in their prime. Aside from Tupac (who was talented - but probably the “least” impactful on the list) - Marley was the closest to his peak as a musician on the list - but both were faces of a genre that had a brief moment and was fading into obscurity as far as the general public was concerned.
The others were mainstream pop artist - they would have broken through at any time - Tupac was talented - but be honest - he was an industry creation - built up by the hype machine. Marley was very talented - and probably would have made more of an impact later in his life outside of music IMHO - similar to Ali outside of boxing.
Mercury had a chance to have that type of impact too potentially - but he also could have went the other way - being more reclusive and just living in his own little bubble like Prince did later in his life.
MJ had way too many issues to continue to make music. Whitney was done and would never be anywhere near her peak either. Prince wanted total control of his product and would have struggled to gain distribution.
To me - there are so many others that checked out too soon to waste time talking about bringing any of these back. They left their mark and they gave us the best they each had - we got their best and never missed out on “what might have been”.
