The “splitting” tips thing is BS.

Someone gives excellent service and waits on 70 tables in a shift - another does the minimum and handles half as many (because they are slower - unable to turn tables as fast or handle as many) - why should they “split” ? What other jobs do this - ever hear of cat salesman “splitting” commissions earned in a month because one got lucky and had better luck with walk ins ? No - you sold more because you did the job better.
Exactly and that's why I usually ask now because there are times I've found out after the fact a few places split

Now “extra ordinary” tips are different. But day to day - it’s every person for themselves.

At the same time - it’s on the servers to “share” with their support staff - bus boys and the like. You got some who think only of themselves. Got to remember the support staff is what enables you to do more and keep people happy. Doesn’t always have to be cash - but cash is certainly easiest. Little things mean a lot to these people.

Oh - and tip cash - to many employers charge for processing on credit card tips and don’t turn over until payday - nothing like waiting 2 weeks on that tip given today.
Same with dealers in casinos. Some dealers are fun and talkative and helpful and earn tips, others are boring as shit but still come up because most casinos split tips.

Casino staff splitting I’ve always felt was a “union” thing.

Casino management taking a cut is complete and utter BS - not sure if any still do - but I know in the past it was a thing.

Obviously - can’t have staff walking around on the floor with chips in their pocket - so that’s likely “why” the split. Too hard to individually allocate tips to a certain dealer - especially when you’re rotating every 15 minutes.

But the pit boss getting a cut - BS. Unless it’s a mob ran operation where you had to be connected to get the job - no reason to kick up to a manger.

The union driving the "splitting of tips" it makes sense.
Pit Bosses get a cut? That is wrong on so many levels. Corruption - but of course it is gambling casino so ethics don't exist.

Wouldn’t limit that to Mexicans

You think every Chinese place is filled with legal citizens ?

Every little Greek or Lebanese lunch stand is run by an honest businessman?

Or just plain old ‘merican’s owning a bar.

Crooked owners everywhere - easy to tell when you see a new face serving you every 2-3 weeks.

The Asians though - man - that is one very tough crowd. Makes old school Italians look like a peaceful and easy going people business wise. They are funny - dealing with people outside of their community they are very quiet and timid - bring in another Asian - it can get heated - quick.

Just pointed out them in-particular becauuse my wife (semi-ex) is Mexican as are in-laws and this area has many-many small Mexican restaurants and we've discovered this about the tips

Wager, what if the manager walked up to your table ready to fisticuffs you?

How would you react?
Well, in the cases I've asked if they have to share tips, if I have cash, I tell them to put it in their pocket and if questioned about it, that they explain what I said

I suppose if a manager came over and made a big deal out of it, I'd demand the tip refunded, and sarcastically tell him it's fine, I'll just compensate her when she's off of work, and that we wouldn't be back

We had a Corner Store (conveince store) set out a tip jar. It did not go over well. People were arguing with the staff about how it was BS. After a couple weeks it was gone.
Someone stole the corner store jar?

“7-11 right, you take a penny from the tray,?” “From the crippled children??”

Totally agree on casinos. There were times I had great runs where I would have easily given a much bigger tip if I knew that dealer was going to get to keep it all
