The “splitting” tips thing is BS.

Someone gives excellent service and waits on 70 tables in a shift - another does the minimum and handles half as many (because they are slower - unable to turn tables as fast or handle as many) - why should they “split” ? What other jobs do this - ever hear of cat salesman “splitting” commissions earned in a month because one got lucky and had better luck with walk ins ? No - you sold more because you did the job better.

Now “extra ordinary” tips are different. But day to day - it’s every person for themselves.

At the same time - it’s on the servers to “share” with their support staff - bus boys and the like. You got some who think only of themselves. Got to remember the support staff is what enables you to do more and keep people happy. Doesn’t always have to be cash - but cash is certainly easiest. Little things mean a lot to these people.

Oh - and tip cash - to many employers charge for processing on credit card tips and don’t turn over until payday - nothing like waiting 2 weeks on that tip given today.
Same with casino dealer. You have one that could do a wonderful job and is nice to customers etc and then you have one who's a total grouch and doesn't have any customer service ability yet they are making the same at the end of the day

Never understood how one could be “happy” as a dealer - not saying it’s ok to be an asshole to people - you can still be “friendly” and make general chit chat with a player - but the ones who are just over the top happy to be alive.

Casinos in general just tough - then you got to deal with losers and morons screaming at you when they lose - like somehow you had any control over their stupid strategy.

Smartest thing I ever did was bow out from being a craps dealer when casino came to town - went to the school / was ready to start and my day job said no - not a good look having you work here and there. Went down a few weeks later and table full of street thugs / talked to someone from the class - said tips were good but when these guys show up run out all the touristy gamblers and bet a few hundred - but tip no one. Plus the smell of weed constantly and listening to their shit talking constantly. I’d have lasted about 15 minutes before I would have been fired probably.

I find the "nicest/pleasant" dealers are off the strip. I think the lower end casinos like downtown or well off the strip have newer dealers who've not been burnt out yet so they are nice. Not all of them are like that but most.

nope - but likely would have said something smart asses enough to get my ass shown the door by management. Not that it would have been the first time.

In general - I can deal with just about anyone’s bullshit - it’s understood people talk a big game - especially in casinos. Just annoys me when these clowns betting green chips act like they are high rollers and own the place. Be a freaking man - play black at least or go home.

When I play - I honestly play more for the social aspect of it rather than to win. I mean if I want to win - that’s what sportsbooks are for. I can’t gain any advantage studying a table.
