I think Chicago made the right move

They raped Carolina

And they are probably going to do it to another team again in this year's draft
but Wager while I see what Archie is saying I do not get what you are . Stroud looks like a sure fire 1st round pick for years to come. barring injury. You would rather have Fields, Moore, and a 1st rounder this 2024 than Stroud?

they weren't going to admit they needed to move on from fields AND even if they had they would have taking Bryce young and if they had taken Stroud, they ARE the bears. they have perfected fucking up QB development for decades

Stroud looks like a star in the making - so have a lot of other guys.

Draft capital is a sure thing AND you had Fields (who had shown flashes at the time of the deal) - you draft Stroud - you have a headache on your hands with Fields - you can’t just cut him and owe a ton of dead money…he goes elsewhere and works out - and Stroud doesn’t surpass him - your out of a job and never heard from again in the NFL for making the stupidest decision ever.

You try to keep both - your sitting Stroud who doesn’t get a chance until Fields goes down with an injury likely - or until his play forces you to make the move - your basically 49’ers a few years ago with Lance. It worked out for the 49’ers - but Trey not so much to date. Usually it blows up on both team and player.

The #1 pick was just dumb luck - but you figured it would be top 5 likely. Even if they would have gotten back #5 this year - in addition to #9 last year AND an all-pro caliber receiver - you do that deal 10 of 10 times as a GM. Stroud has looked great - but let’s see where he is 4 years from now. He seems solid and like a solid citizen by all accounts - but so did DeShaun Watson.

THX for the take DJ Makes sense, Like you said have to see how Stroud does over a 5-7 year period to truly know.

Watched him regularly through college - like I said - as a player - he’s good and could very well be great. As a person - kid is a very good person and has the right attitude- wants to learn and can rally teammates around him with his personality.

He’s a quieter kind of leader in my opinion - but effective. A lot of QBs have found success in the NFL despite not being the vocal all out leader of their teams. He’s a better pro than college player - in the NFL guys in general know their roles and place on the team. Would be interesting to see him on a team like Dallas with bigger personalities surrounding him. I think Houston is a good fit for him - less media and a lot of young guys who are just happy to play for a winning team. Of course - we know as guys get a taste of success they can change too - egos come into play. I think he will do well though - hopefully he can prolong the magic a little longer this season.

But nobody could have predicted that

Patrick Mahomes went 10th overall

Easy to say after the fact he should have gone 1st but who knew - Nobody

As for Fields, see below in response to Arch

they weren't going to admit they needed to move on from fields AND even if they had they would have taking Bryce young and if they had taken Stroud, they ARE the bears. they have perfected fucking up QB development for decades

They saw potential for a guy who has not had an offensive line or any offensive weapons

Fields was 7th in the NFL in rushing last year - as a QB! - with over 1100 yards and averaged over 7yds per carry. Best running quarterback ever so far in my opinion even over Vick and Lamar

They added DJ Moore, and have improved winning 4 more games this year than last, but there still isn't much going on with that offense

I think they give Fields one last year, and will likely take Mavin Harrison Jr
There's also rumblings that they could pursue Bucs' WR Mike Evans

As for Caleb Williams, word is he is putting it out there that he does not want to play for Chicago

They won

great if your goal is highlight reels and bubble gum card stats. but the team and QB are evaluated differently.

19 points scored per game and 14 losses are the bigger stats to look at in a season vs some scrambling yards because you can't read defenses or go through progressions

Exactly - Mahomes went 10th, Josh Allen 7th, Aaron Rodger’s fell to 24th after being expect to be top 5.

JaMarcus Russell went first overall.

It’s a crapshoot evaluating NFL talent - and it’s even tougher for QBs - lots of guys are leaders - but when they hit the big time just don’t adapt well at first for whatever reason - physical or emotional maturity, coaching personality or turnover or whatever.

Remember - these guys got to pick where they went in college and in general as relatively stable coaching staffs. That changes in the NFL - you have everything hitting you at once and are expected to be a leader of a team that in general sucked allowing them to draft you highly. Everyone wants to win now and if they don’t - owners are quick to change coaches and staffs. The best QBs lucked into situations where they could grow and be semi sheltered from the realities of playing for a bad team those first few years.

Panthers have all the makings of one of those dumpster fire teams right now. They might get lucky and turn it around - or they may wind up being the Browns 2.0 with a QB graveyard of their own. Either way though - place Stroud on that team with the #1 pick last year and Moore - I don’t see them winning 5 games even in a weak South. Hell you could even keep CMac on the team and they aren’t going anywhere - and we’d probably be talking about the mistake they made drafting Stroud and should they take Caleb Williams with this years pick.

Carolina dumpster fire right now. They traded CMC one of the best rb's in league and did not even get a 1st round pick in return. The Rams offered them (2) 1st round picks for Brian Burns and they turned it down. And of course they draft a weak armed QB in Young rather then Stroud. They did fire their GM so maybe they will improve. But I do not think Yong is a starter in this league so at some point soon IMO they need to move on. just my 2 cents.

hindsight tho

seems like hit rate on these first rounders is like 5% now. no one can tell which QBs will stick long term
Tt really does seem like a crap shoot on these draft picks. I'm not really sure the scouts can read what it takes to make it in the NFL. Hell, look at Purdy (Mr. Irrelevant) or Tom Brady.
