@JDS is paying me to grade the MLB contest and I will be paying it forward and giving it back to the BMR community.

This will be grand slams for tennis.
French Open....Mon, May 27, 2024 – Sun, Jun 9, 2024
Wimbledon.....Mon, Jul 1, 2024 – Sun, Jul 14, 2024
US Open.....Mon, Aug 26, 2024 – Sun, Sep 8, 2024

Each contest will have a $150 winner take all format.

Each participant will pick 4 mens and 4 women's players. Of the players selected only 2 per side can be ranked inside top 5. The other 2 have to be ranked outside top 5. Basically you will accumulate points throughout the tournament based on matches won. The longer the player advances, the more points you win. The poster with the most points from their 8 team roster wins.

Point structure
R1.....1
R2.....2
R3.....3
R4.....5
QF.....10
Semi Finals......15
Championship.....25
tiebreaker....how many aces will be hit during the finals...combined mens and womens
tiebreaker 2.....how long in minutes will both finals last

I personally will grade the contest. I will open a new thread for each grand slam and make a thread for picks once the draw is out which is typically a few days before the event starts. Once the 1st match on day 1 starts, no more entries.

I hope to have a bunch of entries and good luck to anyone who plays

Great!
Time to learn more about tennis.

Is it WTA and ATP rankings or the seedings in the tournamanet as far as top 5 go?
Will you post the rankings before each tourny Sammy?

Always remember rankings don’t mean a lot in tennis. They are really not geared towards current player performance

Example gauff she’s currently the third rank player, but that’s based off last August. Very nice run back then not current performance which is approx top 15

Are there other rankings you would suggest using JJ?

tennis and golf have similar ranking systems. The points are accumulated throughout the year and you keep those points until the following year and have to defend those points.

For example....you get 2000 points for winning a Grand Slam

so Djokovic wins Aussie open and earns 2000 points. He keeps those points all year until the next Australian open. If he wins again, he earns 0 points, but losses 0 points. B/c year over year he had the same result.

Let's say he got 2nd place. He earns 1200 points. Meaning he would lose 800 points in his overall ranking, but earn the 1200 points for the YTD standings.

So there's rankings accumulating and those are the ranking you see day to day. But then there's also YTD point earners. Top 8 make it to special year end finals tournaments.

So to JJ Golds point, COCO Gauff is ranked #3 in the world. She accumulated most of her points in the summer. Winning US Open and also Washington DC which was a tune event prior to US Open. So she will have a lot of points to defend later in the season to keep her world #3 ranking and could easily lose and drop down if she doesn't perform at the same level

but for the 2024 season, COCO is ranked 5 on the year.

so complicated answer.....but overall, the rankings you see on a day to day basis is the year round accumulation of points which is how the ranks and seeds will be determined

This was going to be my question @samsncharge99

I’m far from a tennis expert but don’t the majors rank the players on their own pre-tourney? Not necessarily using the exact WTA or APT rankings at the time?

I’m guessing we go off the tourney rankings? So we would have to wait and make our picks when each tourney is about to start?

Thanks again! Very generous of you Sam!

answered a few posts above

tournaments go by ATP rankings, they don't use their own rankings. Unless someone is injured, the top 32 seeds are the top 32 players ranked 1-32

again, I will post top seeds for each tournament as rankings change weekly
